Integrated Management of Mango Hopper

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To develop an integrated management approach for the mango hopper ( Idioscopus clypealis) several management options were evaluated during the mango growing season 2009 at Hill Agricultural Research Station, Khagrachari. The management package comprising of cultural management, application of smoke to the tree prior to emergence of inflorescence along with two sprays of Cypermethrin 10EC @ 1 ml/litre of water appeared to be the best option against mango hopper offering the lowest pest incidence and the highest (327%) increase in fruit retention over control.

Objectives:

To develop suitable management approach to manage the mango hopper.

Methodology:

The research work was conducted at the mango orchard of Hill Agricultural Research Station, Khagrachari during mango growing season 2009. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with five treatments and 3 replications. One mango tree was considered as one replication of a treatment The treatments used in this experiment were as follows T₁= Cultural management + two sprays of Cypermethrin 10 EC @ 1 ml/litre of water. First spray within 10 days of flowering when flower-buds are not opened and 2nd spray after one month of first spray; T₂= Cultural management + application of smoke to the tree e prior to emergence of inflorescence; T₃= Cultural management + application of smoke to the tree prior to emergence of inflorescence + one spray of Cypermethrin 10 EC @ 1 ml/ litre of water; T₄= Cultural management + Application of smoke to the tree prior to emergence of inflorescence + two sprays of Cypermethrin 10 EC @ 1 ml/litre of water. And T₅= Untreated control. Each treatment was applied twice as a full cover spray on mango trees with the help of a high volume and high pressure foot pump sprayer. The first application was done within 10 days of flowering and the second application was done after one month of the first application.

Achievement/Findings:
