An  experiment   was  conducted   at  Regional  Agricultural  Research Station,  BAR I, Jessore  during  rabi  season,  1989-90 to find out  optimum time of sowing and seed rate for higher  yield of a newly   selected Brassica  napus  genotype, Nap-3. There were four seeding dates (O::t.16, Nov. 1, Nov.15 and Dec. 1 )     and five seeding rates (4,6, 8,10, 12 kg/ha)  in the experiment.   Seeding rates  signifi­cantly influenced  number of  branches/plant,  numbers   of  seeds/siliqua, and  seed yield/plant;but plant height, length of siliqua,and   seed yield/ha  were  not  signi­ficantly   influenced   by  seed  rate.   Time  of sowing significantly influenced  plant height,   number  of   siliqua/plant.   number   of  seeds/siliqua,  seed   yield/plant, and  seed yield/ha.  The  highest   seed  yield   per  hectare  was obtained in plants sown on 15 October which  was similar to that sown on 1 November.

 To   find out   the  optimum sowing   time    and   seed  rate   for  the newly  selected  genotype Nap-3.

The   experiment    was    conducted during rabi  season   of 1989-90  at the Regional Agricultural Research Stat ion of    Bangladesh  Agricultural   Research Institute, Jessore.  The soils  of   experi­mental field    belong  to   the  Gopalpur Soil Series, which is   characterized  by calcareous    Brown    Flood    Plain   Soils having  pH 7.0. There were four  seeding  dates   (Oct.    15,   Nov. 1, Nov. 15 and Dec. 1)  and   five   seeding rates (4, 6, 8, 10, 12  kg/ha) in  the  experiment. The   experiment  was   laid out   in  split plot design   with seeding date  in main   plot  and  seeding    rata in sub-plot.  The experiment  was  replicated  thrice         The   unit  plot    size was 5m X 3m.  Fertilizers  were   applied  at the rate  of 1 38,  80, 60, 32,  4   kg/ha  of N, P2 0 6 , K 2 0, Sand Zn,   respectively in   the   form    of    Urea,   Triple    Super Phosphate, Muriate of Potash, Gypsum and Zinc  sulphate.       Half of   the   nitrogen  and   full  amount   of other  fertilizers  were   applied  final rand preparation.  The  remaining  half of  nitrogen was applied as top dressing on 22 days   after  seedling  emergence. Seeds were sown in broadcast   method according   to    the   treatments.      One weeding was done in the  second  week after emergence.       Two      irrigation were applied on 22   days and   5 5 days after  emergence. Malathion was spray­ed to control   leaf   eating  cater  pilfers and   aphids.        At   maturity  stage,   ten randomly selected plants  were uprooted from  each plot for  collecting   data on  yield    and   Its   components. Cr ops harvested  at different dates  depending on maturity and data  were collected on different characters.
