A 4-week long experiment was carried out to assess and compare the nutritive value of three commercial fish feed namely Quality, Mega and National feed and their effects on the growth of Nile tilapia (GIFT strain , Oreochromis niloticus) fry. Three comrnercial fish feed were collected from local market and proximate composition such as moisture, crude protein, crude lipid , crude fibre and ash were analyzed at the Fish Nutrition Laboratory of the Department of Aquaculture, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh. The protein , lipid , moisture content of these feed fixed by company were compared with analyzed value. From proximate composition the protein content of Quality feed, Mega feed and National feed were 34.52%, 34.84% and 24.0 I %, respectively and their company provided value were 36%, 35% and 25%, respectively. The lipid content of Quality feed (7.5%) and National feed ( I 0.08%) from analysis were little bit higher than company provided value 7% and 10%, respectively. But in case of Mega feed there were great difference in lipid content was found in analyzed (7.39%) and company provided value (3%). Similarly the increasing moisture content was also observed in three feed from analysis. After doing proximate analysis the feeding experiment was done with 4 days old tilapia (GIFT strain , 0. niloticus) fry for a period of 28 days to determine the effect of these feed on growth and survival of tilapia fry in synthetic hapa in pond. This experiment was designed with three treatments each having two replications. Three different feed Quality feed (T1 ), Mega feed (T2) and National feed (T3), were supplied four times a day. Growth of tilapia fry under treatment T2 in terms of both length and weight were significantly significantly (p<0.01) higher than those with other treatments. T3 showed significantly (p<0.01) lowest growth performance among the three treatments. The highest survival rate (90.28%) was obtained with treatment T2 . Comparatively better growth and survival rate of fry were obtained with Mega feed. From the result of both nutritive value and growth performance Mega feed can be the recommended for the growth and production of tilapia fry.

1. To assess and compare the nutritive value of three commercial fish feed and their effect on the growth of Nile tilapia fry.

The experiment was conducted in a private farm named "Authentic Hatchery" located at Sikarikanda under sadar upazi la in Mymensingh district for a period of 28 days to assess and compare the nutritive value of three commercial fish feed and their effect on the growth of Nile tilapia (GIFT strain) fry in synthetic hapa from 9th July to 6th August , 2011 . Nutritive Value of Three Commercial Fish Feeds, Three commercial fish feed named Quality feed, Mega feed and National feed were collected from local market. National and quality feed was collected from Shomvuganj feed dealers and mega feed was collected from Churkhai feed dealers . Proximate composition of these feed were analyzed following the standard methods given by Association of Official Anal ytical Chemists  at the Fish Nutrition Laboratory in the Department of Aquaculture , Faculty of Fisheries , Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh . The experiment was designed into three treatment groups (T1 , T2, T3) fed with three different diets each having two replications. Four days old fry of initial average length 0.8 cm and weight 0.008 g were released at same stocking densities (1250/m2). Fry were acclimatized with the experimental pond water in plastic bowl and then stocked in the hapa on 9th July 2011. Three different feed Quality feed (T1 ), Mega feed (T2) and National feed (T3) were supplied four times a day. Feeds were supplied to fry up to satiation level. The water quality parameter s of pond water such as temperature , pH and dissolved oxygen were measured at 7 days interval throughout the experimental period. Temperatures were determined by centigrade thermometer and pH and DO by pH test kit and DO test kit, respectively. Sampling was carried out at an interval of 7 days where fry were caught by a scoop net and kept in a bowl with water. Total length and weight were recorded by using a scale and analytical balance. After recording the length and weight the fry were released in the respective hapa and growth performances were calculated.
