IWMD, BRRI

The experiment was conducted at the research field of BRRI farm, Gazipur during the Aman season of 2006. The rice cultivars were used as BRRI dhan39. This experiment was carried out with three irrigation treatments and four sowing dates. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications having unit plot size of 2.5m × 4.5m. Sowing dates were in main plot and water management treatments were in sub plot. Daily RF pattern during sowing time (June, July) of 2006 showed that mid June sowing need land preparation water depending on rainfall occurred.  ET demand of crop varied by sowing time and S&P demand varied by water management. ET demand varied from 408 mm to 496 mm. S&P demand varied from 399 mm to 421 mm by the water treatment. Seasonal rainfall occurred varied from 761 mm to 1001 mm during 2006 depending on various sowing date. Crop matured at 10 days earlier in late sowing plant than early sowing plant. Yield and yield contributing factors of BRRI dhan39 showed that the highest number of panicle per m2 area observed 329. It is varied from 272 to 329 in year 2006. Mid June sowing (S1) gave the highest no. of effective tiller/m2. Filled grain per panicle was higher in 31st July sowing (S4) and that varied from 81 to 112. Grain sterility in percentage is lowest in 31st July sowing. It is observed that grain sterility (%) effected by sowing date but not by water treatment. Grain yield was statistically significant different by sowing date. The highest grain yield was obtained from mid June sowing in 2006. It was statistically significant different by water management. Three supplemental irrigation applied gave the highest yield during this year. WUE varied from 93 to 100. In 2006, seasonal rainfall varied from 761 mm to 1001 mm and effective rainfall was 531 to 836 mm. So, water applied was very similar to water required and resulted as 100% water use efficiency. It is seen from two years study that during Aman season under rainfed condition for getting optimum yield sowing would be done by drum seeder within mid June to 1st July in drum seeding wet seeded rice cultivation.

  Water management
  1. To identify appropriate sowing time;
  2. To identify the best water management practice; and
  3. To compare the interaction effect of sowing time and water management practice.

Fertilizers were applied at the rate of 135-50-60-35-5 kg/ha of urea, TSP, MP, gypsum and Zinc sulfate, respectively. Except urea all fertilizers were applied during the final land preparation. Urea was applied in four equal splits at 25, 40, 55 and 65 days after sowing (DAS). Irrigation water was applied as per water treatment and was measured by using a vertical gauge installed in the middle of experimental plot.  Rainfall data measured by Tru-check rain gauges were used to estimate effective rainfall by using the water use- rainfall ratio method (Dastane, 1974).
