Performance of Transplanted Aman Rice Varieties as Influenced by Age of Seedlings Under Late Conditions

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Field experiment was conducted the Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Pabna during June to December 1988 to ascertain the response of late transplanted local and modern Aman rice varieties as influenced dy different age of seedlings. Yield and yield contributing characters of aman rice varieties varied significantly among themselves and BR 23 out yielded the other rice varieties. Interaction effect or varieties and seedling ages revealed that modem rice variety BR 23 produced significantly the highest grain yield (3.64t.ha) when it was transplanted with 40 to 75 days old seedlings up to fifteen September.

Objectives:

To study the response of late transplanted local and modern varieties to T.aman rice as influenced by different seedlings age.

Methodology:

The field experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, Pabna during June to December 1988. Seedlings of T.aman rice varieties, BinasaiI, Ganzia, BR22 and BR23 were raised in a seed bed with an objectives to get 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 day old seedlings. Seeds were sown in the seed bed on June 15, June 30, July 15, July 30 and August 15, 1988. The experimental fields were ploughed well to get a good tilth. The experiment was set in a split plot design with three replications. T.aman rice varieties were placed in the main plots and the seedling age in the sub-plots. Unit plot size was 4m x 3m. Fertilizers were applied at the rate of 80-60-40 (Kg/ha) N, p₂O₅and K₂O. The entire amount of P₂O₅ and K₂O were applied as basal from TSP and MP respectively. Nitrogen from urea was top dressed in two equal splits at 10 and 25 days after transplanting. Seedlings of T.aman rice varieties were transplanted on the 15^th September 1988 with the spacing 20 cm x I5 cm. Data on plant height, effective tillers/hill, No. of grains panicle filled grains/panicle, panicle length. 1000-grain weight, grain yield and straw yield were collected, and analyzed statistically.

Achievement/Findings:

The results of the study suggest that the T.aman rice variety BR23 may be transplanted with 45 to 75 days old seedlings up to 15^th September to get higher rice yield under the agro- ecological situations of Pabna district.
