In the present paper, an attempt was made to evaluate the performance of RDA developed low-cost deep tube-well. The performance was evaluated by obtaining the value of some technical parameters. For this purposes, three RDA developed low- cost deep tube-well were selected at the locations namely Jamalpur, Kalsimate and Damua village of Bogra district. Well performance, well efficiency and economic analysis (benefit cost ratio, internal rate of return and self sufficiency) were considered to evaluate the performance. The specific drawdown for 240 min (stabilized drawdown) were found 1.321 min/m2, 1.375 min/m2, 1.468 min/m2 for Jamalpur, Kalsimati and Damua respectively from step drawdown test. The average well efficiency of three location was 90.15%. The benefit cost ratio obtained for RDA- DTW at Jamalpur, Kalsimate and Damua village was 2.00, 1.84 and 1.67 at 12% discount rate respectively. The internal rate of return (IRR) value was 74.53, 79.28 & 81.97% and the percentage of financial self sufficiency was found to be 360, 285.7 and 228.6% for the respective DTWs. Profitability analysis clearly indicated that RDA low-cost DTW is highly profitable for the farmers of the study area and it might help poverty alleviation to a significant extant. Through RDA-DTW was considered a good irrigation technology for its low-cost, high internal rate of return and self sufficiency.

1. To determine well performance and well efficiency

2. To calculate the benefit-cost ratio of the RDA developed low-cost DTW.

3. To determine the internal rate of return (IRR) value.

4. To find out the percentage of financial self -sufficiency.

The study was conducted in the year of 2000 with RDA developed low-cost DTW. There were 19 RDA developed low-cost DTW in the different locations of Bangladesh. Among them, the study was conducted with three selected DTWs located at Jamalpur, Kalsimate and Damua village of Bogra district in order to determine the economic performance. The survey method was employed to collect information. Necessary information such as irrigated area, production, income to be derived from irrigation, facility improvement, modification and rehabilitation cost, investment cost etc. When water is pumped from a well the water level within the aquifer falls and causes a head different, between the well and its vicinity, which is known as drawdown. The drawdown observed at a well does not only include the laminar head loss referred to as aquifer or formation loss, due to travel of water towards well presenting a logarithmic drawdown curve at well face but also consists of a well less components caused by the resistance to turbulent flow of ground water through the well screens violating the Decays low.

Economic analysis is the process of determining the total return (Social or economical return) to the whole society or economy of all the resources committed to the project. In economic analysis, certain prices may be changed to reflect better true social or economic values. These adjusted prices are often termed shadow or accounting prices. The benefit cost analysis or the B/C ratio is considered as one of three discounted measures of project worth. Base on a comparison of the costs and benefits of a particular project, it tries to answer the practical questions of increased by altering design parameters such as the location, timing, scale, composition, technology or method of implementation and whether the policy environment bearing on the project is or could be made, conclusive to its successful implementation and operation. Thus, cost-benefit analysis seeks to determine net-return to the economy, but also if there is an alternative way of achieving the projects objectives that would offer higher return. The internal rate of return in determined through a trial and error procedure. Given the time stream of benefit and cost, the project evaluation arbitrarily choose a value for discounts the two streams, sums them up respectively and finds the difference between two sums. It the difference in positive that in the net present value of benefits is positive. It raised that the value of discounts factors and repeats the process until the net present value has approached zero. Data were analyzed with a view to achieving the objectives of the study. In the present study, tabular and descriptive techniques were mainly used for analysis of data. In respect to aspects, data on the point of net present value at the lower discount rate, net present value at the higher discount rate and capital (Tk) were considered. The tabular methods are widely used in farm based research because it is convenient and easy to understand.

Proper utilization and management of available water resource is the key factors in accelerating agricultural development of the country. Ground water has become the dependable source for meeting over 70% of irrigation needs and almost total potable water depends of our country, But due to lack of proper management and operation and maintenance cost of water abstraction device (DTW & STW) and pumps. installation or-traditional DTWs are no more economically viable nowaday. To overcome the problem, RDA developed low cost DTW technology, which is based on demand specific and economic design. The specific drawdown at Jamalpur is 1.321. Kalsimati is 1.375 and Damua is 1.468 min/m2.The average well efficiency of RDA developed DTW is 90.15% which indicates that the tube-well was efficient and it was properly constructed and developed. Economic analysis (Benefit cost ratio, internal rate of return value, percentage financial sell sufficiency) is suitable for marginal level farmers. The benefit cost ratio of Jamalpur, Kalsimati and Damua were 2.00, 1.84 and 1.67 respectively. On the whole by using the technology in a limited scale particularly the substance and marginal farmers can alleviate poverty to a significant extent and thus can contribute to the national economy.
