Physico-chemical Characters of Some Clones of Kagzi Lime

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A study on the physico-chemical characters of six clones of kagzi lime was carried out at the Citrus and Vegetable Seed Research Centre, Joydebpur under BARI during June-July, 1988. The line SC- 055 and SC-053 produced the large and heavy fruits. A distinct variation in shape and rind thickness of fruits was found amongst the clones. It was found that SC-055 (36.03%), SC -051 (35.50%) and SC-053 (33.87%) contained high percentage of juice. The brix reading and total acid varied from 7.33 to 8.93% and 6.60 to 7.87% respectively.

Objectives:

To identify superior clones of Kagzi lime.

Methodology:

Four years old plants of the clonal lines viz. SC-051, SC-052, SC-053, SC-054, SC- 055 and SC-056 collected from Ishurdi, Faridpur, Rangpur, Patia (Chittagong) and Comilla respectively in 1983 were included in this study. The plants were raised from one year old air-layerings which were planted in June, 1984. A randomized complete block design was adopted using three plants of each line representing the three replications. Ten fruits at marketable stage were collected randomly from each plant. Their physico-chemical characteristics, such as, fruit weight, size, shape index, thickness of rind, no. of seeds/fruit, weight of seeds, juice (%), brix reading (%) and total acid (%) were recorded in the laboratory. The total acid content and brix reading were estimated by electrically, operated acid analyser (Atago Company Ltd., Model No. FS -2, Japan) and hand refractometer (Atago Company Ltd. Atago NI, Japan) respectively. The data on fruit characters were analysed and presented.

Achievement/Findings:

The findings of this study led to suggest that kagzi lime of Patia (SC-055) and Faridpur (SC-053) were superior to those collected from Ishurdi, Rangpur and Comilia in respect of fruit size and juce content.
