A field experiment was conducted under rainfed condition in three consecutive years (2002 to 2004) at FSRD site, Atkapalia, Noakhali to evaluate different nutrient management packages for Groundnut-T, Aman rice cropping pattern. Six different nutrient management options viz. soil test based (STB) nutrients for moderate yield goal (MYG), STB for high yield goal (HYG), Integrated Plant Nutrition System approach following high yield goal (IPNS), location specific nutrient dose as per Fertilizer Recommendation Guide' 1997 (FRG '97), farmers practice and control were tested. Three years average result showed that STB fertilizer dose for HYG and IPNS treatments gave higher yield performance in groundnut while IP Sand FRG'97 treatment performed better in T. Aman rice. The average gross margin was highest (Tk 68533/ha) in IPNS followed by FRG'97 treatment. Hut highest MBCR over control was obtained from fRG'97 (3.97). Nitrogen and potassium balances were negative in different nutrient options and varied from 220 to 240 and 108 to 140 kg ha-1, respectively. Phosphorus was neutral in FGR'97 and positive in other nutrient options.

To evaluate different fertilizer management practices for Groundnut-T. Aman rice cropping pattern in the light of agronomic, economic and soil fertility point of view under AEZ 18.

The experiment was conducted at farmer's field of Farming System Research and Development (FSRD) site, Atkapalia, Noakhali during Rabi and Kharif-II seasons of 2001-02 to 2003-04 in medium high Ian and under rain fed condition. The soil was silty loam to clay belonging to Ramgati soil series of AEZ 18 (Young Meghna Estuarine Floodplain). Soil samples were collected before setting up the experiment. The soil had pH 7.2, organic matter 1.66%, total N 0.092%, exchangeable K 0.182 meq g/100g soil, available P 2.00 ppm, S 25.83 ppm, Zn 0.62 ppm and B 0.l5 ppm. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with 6 dispersed replications. The unit plot size was 6 m X 5 m. The variety groundnut and T Aman rice were Dhaka-l and BRRI dhan-32, respectively. Groundnut seeds were sown on 1st week of January with spacing of 30 cm x 15 cm. Seedlings of 30-35 days T. Aman rice were transplanted on 1st week of August with the spacing of 20 cm x 15 cm.T1 (ED1) = Estimated mineral fertilizer dose for moderate yield goal (MYG), T2 (ED2) =Estimated mineral fertilizer dose for high yield goal (HYG), T3 (IPNS) =Integrated nutrient management for high yield goal, T4 (FRG'97) =Fertilizer dose as per BARC Fertilizer Recommendation Guide'97 (AEZ-based General Recommendation), T5(FP) =Local farmer's practice T6 (Control) =Absolute control.

The treatment ED1, ED2, and FRG'97 were estimated following BARC . The detailed treatment description of the experimental area is presented. The total of N, P, K, S, Zn and cowdung were applied to the respective plots as basal at the final land preparation for groundnut. In case of T. Aman, the full doses of P, K, S, Zn and 2/3 of N were applied during final land preparation. The remaining N fertilizer was applied as top dress in two instatements and 50 days after transplanting. The sources of N, P, K, Sand Zn were urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum a zinc sulphate, respectively. Since sulphur status (25.83 ppm) was high, it was not considered in this experiment except in the treatment FRG'97. Boron @ 1 kg/ha was used as blanket dose in groundnut. The crops were weeded in two times. Groundnut and T. Aman rice were harvested on mid May and mid November, respectively. Initial grain weight of T. Aman rice was adjusted at 14% level of moisture using moisture meter. Statistical analysis was performed and Duncans' Multiple Range Test (DMRT) compared the mean values. Apparent nutrient uptake by the crops were estimated following the standard value of Fertilizer Recommendation Guide' 1997. For comparison among the treatments, yield or groundnut and grain yield of T. Aman rice were converted into rice equivalent yield on the basis of prevailing market rates of individual crop following Reddy and Reddy.

From the three years study, it showed that the treatment IPNS performed better in terms of combined yield in both the crops. Although the treatment FRG'97 was cost effective, it's nutrient balance was inferior as compared to the other treatments. Cost of cow dung increased higher fertilizer cost in IPNS. Hence, it is suggested to use stover of groundnut as substitute of cow dung and expected to be economically viable. Considering the yield and soil fertility for sustaining crop production, IPNS treatment inclusion of cowdung could be recommended for Groundnut - T. Aman rice cropping pattern under AEZ 18 and inclusion of groundnut stover in IPNS treatment may be considered as further study.
