Location x genotype interaction was significant at 0.05 level for grain yield, growth duration, plant height, panicles/m2, filled grains/panicle, 1000-grain weight (g) and sterility%. The tested genotype produced good yield ranging from 3.8 to 5.2 t/ha in different locations except Khulna due to some management problem at that location. In most of the locations, the genotype OM1490 gave a yield higher than 4.0t/ha and the highest yield (5.2 t/ha) of this genotype was achieved in Kushtia. On an average, OM1490 gave yield (4.1 t/ha) higher than the check variety BR26 but lower than the another check variety BRRI dhan48. On the other hand, the average growth duration of OM1490 and BRRI dhan48 were 102 and 107 days, respectively. That means OM1490 is 5 days earlier than the check variety BRRI dhan48, although the yield of OM1490 is slightly lower than that of BRRI dhan48. So, if we want short duration variety with a good yield in Aus season, OM1490 may be a suitable one. Mean plant height of OM1490 was shorter (94 cm) than that of BR26 (110 cm) and BRRI dhan48 (103 cm). Number of panicles/m2 varied among the different locations. Average panicle number/m2 of OM1490 (333) was very similar to that of check varieties. The highest number (96) of filled grains/panicle was found in the check variety BRRI dhan48 which was followed by the tested entry OM1490 (76). The 1000-grain weight of OM1490 was 22.75 g which was the lowest Aman the tested entries and check variety. In almost all the locations, the tested entry including check varieties were more or less affected by stem borer and rice hispa. Brown plant hopper in different levels (5-15%) was also found in Chapainawabgonj and Chittagong. The trial at Sreepur of Gazipur was affected due to rat damage (50%). Bacterial Leaf Blight (BLB) and Bacterial leaf streak (BLS) were found at different scores (10-20%) in different entries, especially in Gazipur, Chittagong and Chapainawabganj. The tested entry including check varieties were lodging tolerant.

To test the yield potential and adaptability of advanced lines at farmers’ field under different agro- ecological conditions of Bangladesh about the advantages and disadvantages of the lines from extension workers and farmers.

One advanced line OM1490 along with BR26 and BRRI dhan48 as checks were tested in Barisal (Bakerganj), Khulna (Dumuria), Gazipur (Sreepur), Tangail (Sadar), Chittagong (Hathazari), Chapainawabganj (Sadar), Comilla (Chandina) and Kushtia (Sadar) during T. Aus, 2011. The trials were replicated thrice in each location. The unit plot size for each entry was 21.6 m2 (5.4 m x 4 m). Seeding time was 14 April, 2011 and Seedling ages were varied from 25-30 days among the locations under varied circumstances. Seedlings were transplanted at 20 cm x 15 cm spacing. Fertilizers were applied at 60: 40: 40: 10: 3 kg/ha N: P2O5: K2O: S: Zn. All fertilizers except urea were applied as basal and urea was applied in 2 equal splits at 10 and 30 days after transplanting (DAT). Other standard management practices were followed as and when necessary. Appropriate measures were taken to control insect pests. Date of seeding, transplanting, flowering, maturity, plant height, lodging tolerance, pest and disease incidence, yield and yield components were recorded. Feedback from farmers and DAE personnel were also recorded. For yield estimation, 10m2 sample areas from each plot was harvested at maturity and grain yields were adjusted to 14% moisture content.

Most farmers expressed their satisfaction about the tested entry OM1490 for its better yield and shorter growth duration which will help the farmers to cultivate Aman rice in time. Based on the shorter growth duration, grain yield and farmers’ opinion, OM1490 may be considered for Proposed Variety Trial (PVT).
