Field demonstrations were conducted to study the effect of AWD irrigation practice on yield of three Boro varieties. Study sites were Mollahat and Fakirhat. Yield of Fakirhat found that yield was higher in AWD practice for only BRRI dhan 47 which gave 1.07 t/ha higher yield in AWD practice compared to continuous standing water. It may be due to salt tolerant variety BRRI dhan 47 and the area was not 100% salt free. It was a slightly saline area and the water salinity during the season was <1.5 ds/m. But BRRI dhan28 and Hybrid dhan Hira gave higher yield in CS treatment compared to AWD practice. BRRI dhan 28 gave 6.18 t/ha and 6.30 t/ha yield in AWD and CS practices respectively. Hybrid dhan Hira yielded 7.71 t/ha in AWD and 7.83 t/ha in CS treatments. The result of Mollahat shows the yield and yield contributing parameters of three Boro varieties in AWD and CS practices. Interaction effect of variety and irrigation practices was not significant. However, AWD practice gave higher yield of BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan47 compared to CS practice. Hybrid dhan Hira gave lower yield in AWD plots compared to CS practices. Yield of BRRI dhan28 was 3.09 t/ha in AWD plot and 2.52 t/ha in CS plot. Mean yield of BRRI dhan47 was 3.58 t/ha in AWD and 2.46 t/ha in CS practice. For Hybrid dhan Hira, Yield in CS was 4.82 t/ha which was higher than that in AWD (4.54 t/ha). The number of irrigation saved by using AWD irrigation practices and it was compared with continuous standing water in two locations. The result revealed that 4 to 8 number of irrigations were saved by using AWD over CS. Highest 8 number of irrigations were saved in Mollarhat upazila for all three varieties. AWD practice saved 4 irrigations for BRRI dhan 28, 6 irrigations for BRRI dhan 47 and 7 irrigations for Hybrid dhan Hira at Fakirhat upazila.

  • To study the effect of AWD irrigation practice on yield of three Boro varieties

The study sites were Mollahat and Fakirhat under Bagerhat district. Irrigation practice was AWD compared to farmers practice. In Bagerhat, BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan47 and Hybrid Hira were used. Number of irrigation was recorded for AWD and as well as farmers practice. Fertilizer rate was used as 40:13:22:15:1.5 kg/bigha of urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum and zinc sulphate for BRRI dhan47 and Hybrid Hira. About 35:12:20;15:1.5 kg/bigha of urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum and zinc sulphate fertilizer were used for BRRI dhan47.
