Thirty naturally ticks and lice infested cattle were treated with 0.050% and 0.075% solution of Cypermethrin and all examinations were conducted from day 0 to day 35 at 7 days intervals during the period from March to July, 1999, Bangladesh. The antiectoparasitic efficacy of 0.050% Cypermethrin was 100% at post-treatment day 7, 14, 21 and 28 and 72% at post-treatment day 35, whereas the 0.075% resulted 100% up 10 35 day of post-treatment. The cattle treated with 0.05% become reinfested after 28 to 35 days but those treated with 0.075% were free of ectoparasites up to 35 days of post-treatment. Result of this study indicates that the topical treatment with 0.075% Cypermethrin is highly efficacious against ticks and lice infestation. The effects of Cypermethrin on certain hematological and biochemical parameters of ectoparasite cattle were also studied on the post-treatment periods. The hemato- biochcrnical examinations were conducted from day 0 to day 35 at 7 days intervals. Total erythrocyte count (TEC), haemoglobin (Hb) and packed cell volume (PCV) values were significantly increased. while erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and eosinophil percentage were decreased significantly (P<0.05) after treatment with Cyperrnethrin, Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) and serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) levels were increased significantly but were within normal ranges, from 7th day to 2151 day of post-treatment and returned to its initial level at the end of the experiment on 35th day. The treatment produced no adverse effects without reversible changes of biochemical parameters. It is concluded that Cypermethrin may be used in veterinary practices for the treatment of ectoparasitie infestations.

To evaluate the pour on formulation of Cypermethrin against ticks and lice infestation with the haemato- biochemical changes in cattle.

A total of 30 naturally ticks and lice infested zebu cattle aged between 2-3 years, of both sexes of Bangladesh Agricultural University Dairy Farm and adjacent village was used in this study. The research work was carried out during the period of March to July, 1999. These cattle were allocated into three equal groups (A, B and C ) each consist of 10 animals. Animals of the groups A and B were used as treatment groups and C as the control group. A commercial formulation of Cypermethrin was used for this trial study which was diluted into 0.050% and 0.075% with distilled water. The chemical name of Cyperrnethrin is [S, R] - alpha-cyano - 3 - phenoxybenzyl - 2, 2 - dimethyl [ IR, IS, cis, trans] - 3 - (2, 2 - dichlorovinyl). The Autoanalyzer with the help of diagnostic kits (Fisons Bangladesh Ltd.) estimated the serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) and serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT). The 0.050% and 0.075% solutions of Cyperrnethrin were applied once using hand spray over the body of each animals of groups A and B whereas animals of group C were remained untreated. Ticks and lice count was carried out for each animal on pre-treatment day 0 and on post-treatment days 7, 14, 21,28 and 35. The blood samples 5ml were collected from the jugular vein of each experimental cattle in vials containing EDTA on pre-treatment day 0 and on post-treatment days 7, 14, 21,28 and 35. Haernatological parameters like total erythrocyte count (TEC), hemoglobin (Hb), packed cell volume (PCV), eryhtrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and differential leukocyte count (DLC) were determined by the method. The sera were separated from blood samples collected without adding any anti-coagulant by centrifuging at 3000 r.p.m. for 15 min and then used for biochemical (SGOT and SGPT) analysis. Reflotron Autoanalyzer performed all the biochemical tests at 35?. The data for groups A and B were statistically compared at day 0 and at respective day period, with group C, using Statistical Software 'SYSTAT' Version 6.1.

In the present experiment, the levels of SGOT and SGPT had increased to 65 IU/Land 35 IU/L, respectively, but were within normal ranges. Therefore, the single topical treatment with Cypermethrin could be used in ticks and lice infestation in cattle.
