The existing apron draft flyer spinning machine has been modified by adapting ring and traveller at its delivery end for making fine jute yarn. In the experiment, the flyer system of the machine has been removed by introducing rings and travellers. Fine jute yarn up to 3 lb/spy (103.5 tex) spun by the modified machine. The speed of the spindles has been increased up to 8000 rpm from its original flyer speed 4250 rpm. Bangla White B (BWB) jute fibre was used for making this fine yarn. Spinning performance of the machine was satisfactory. The properties of produced fine yarn. Spinning performance of the machine was satisfactory. The properties of produced fine yarn, such as elongation, strain, tenacity, textile modulus, quality ratio, spinning breakage and load at break were determined by a computerized Universal Testing Machine. The produced yarn compared with the yarn produced by other spinning machines of fine jute yarn.

To study the performance and yarn quality of modified apron draft spinning machine.

Jute is golden fibre of  Bangladesh. It  was the aim exporting item of Bangladesh till 1971. At present, jute is the third foreign currency earner next to the garments and manpower sectors. There are about 80 jute mills in the country. They are using conventional jute machinery and are producing conventional jute products. Most of the jute mills have apron draft spinning machine. A large number of the machines are lying at idle condition due to the unavailability of spare parts and few of them are producing yarn thicker than 150 tex. In the proposed system the machine will be able to produce 100 tex to 150 tex jute yarn with minimum input. This conventional machinery is not able to produce fine count jute yarn due to the presence of drag force between bobbin and flyer during spinning. In the proposed system the drag force of the bobbin carrier has eliminated by introducing ring and traveller instead of flyer. The conventional jute products are facing tough competition with synthetics in the world market. Industries are gradually losing their productivity and very reasonable less efforts are given to improve the productivity. The investigation was designed to modify the present spinning machine with very little input to produce better quality fine jute yarn with higher productivity. There is a prospective market for fine count jute yarn in the world. The produced yarn will be used in furnishing fabric, decorative fabric, shopping bag etc. as a result, diversified uses of jute will be increased. So, it is most essential to produce fine count yarn by developing and modifying the existing machines through an extensive study. Therefore, the aim of this investigation was a study of apron draft spinning machine for its development to produce fine jute yarn. Different jute mills of jute growing countries will be able to produce fine jute yarn by making similar modification of existing apron draft spinning frame.

A batch of BWB (Bangladesh White B) was processed on GL Softener Machine with 25% application of normal emulsion for producing yarns through other yarns producing machines (Bolleli and Gradell spinning). After 48 hours the batch was processed with Mackie Hessian Breaker and Finisher cards. Finisher Card rolls was processed on Mackie 1st, 2nd and 3rd Drawing Frames. 100 kg of the Third Drawing Frame Slivers (2.4 gm/mt) were sent to M/s. Bolelli Spa. and M/s. Gradella Spa for carrying out experiments on the possibility of commercial manufacturing of fine yarns.

In this comparison it is shown the  quality ratio of yarn produced by the Gradella spinning machine is 76.33%, the quality ratio of yarn produced by the Bolleli ring spinning machine is 79.36%. On the other hand the produced by the N.S.C. ring spinning machine is 76%. On the other hand the quality ratio of yarn produced by the modified apron draft ring spinning machine is 72%. The quality ratio of yarn produced by the experimental machine is nearly the same as that for the yarns produced by other jute yarn producing machinery. Gradella, Bolleli and N.S.C. ring spinning machines are not cost effective for jute industry. Finally it is concluded by that the modified machine is suitable for producing fine jute yarn of 103 tex.
