Management of Gummy Stem Blight (black Rot) on Bottle Gourd

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at RARS, Rahmatpur, Barisal during 2014-2015. Management of gummy stem blight (black rot) on bottle gourd was conducted by seed treatment with Ridomil gold MZ 68 WG (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2% and spraying Ridomil gold MZ 68 WG (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2%, Nativo 75 WG (Tebuconazole+Trofloxystobin) @ 0.1%, Neoban 72 WP (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2%, Secure 600 WG (Fenamidone+ Mancozeb) @ 0.1%, Score (Difenoconazole) @ 0.1%, Aimstar Top 325 SC (Azoxystrobin +Difenoconazole) @ 0.1%, Melody duo 66.8 WP (Propineb + Iprovalicarb) @ 0.1%, Filia 525 SE (Tricyclazole + Propiconazole) @ 0.1 %, Timseen Tm (n –alkyl dimethyl benzyl) @0.1%, Mancosil 72 WP (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2% and Trichoderma harzanium under natural condition. From this experiment, it was found that seed treatment with Ridomil gold MZ 68 WG (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2% and two sprays of Aimstar Top (0.1%)/ Nativo (0.1%) Secure (0.1%)/ Timseen (0.1%) effectively control the gummy stem blight (black rot) in bottle gourd.

Objectives:

The present investigation was undertaken to manage the gummy stem blight disease in bottle gourd.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Rahmatpur, and Barisal during, 2014-2015. The design was RCB having 3 replications. Variety was used BARI Lau-4. Sizes of the plots were 3.0 m x 4.0 m. The experiment was conducted under natural infection condition. Recommended doses of fertilizers (Cow dung 80 Kg, Urea 700 g, TSP 700 g, MoP 600 g, Zypsum 400 g, Zinc sulphate 50 g, Boric acid 20 g and MgO 50 g per decimal/ 6 pit) were used. The12 treatments including control were viz. Ridomil gold MZ 68 WG (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2%, Nativo 75 WG (Tebuconazole+Trofloxystobin) @ 0.1%, Neoban 72 WP (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2%, Secure 600 WG (Fenamidone+ Mancozeb) @ 0.1%, Score (Difenoconazole) @ 0.1%, Aimstar Top 325 SC (Azoxystrobin +Difenoconazole) @ 0.1%, Melody duo 66.8 WP (Propineb + Iprovalicarb) @ 0.1%, Filia 525 SE (Tricyclazole + Propiconazole) @ 0.1 %, Timseen Tm (n –alkyl dimethyl benzyl) @0.1%, Mancosil 72 WP (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2% and Trichoderma harzanium. Two sprays were given at an interval of 10 days after first disease appear. In general the seeds were treated with Ridomil gold (0.2 %) except control and Trichoderma harzianium. Disease data were recorded before every spray using 1-5 rating scale given by Zhang et al (1997) and Zuniga et al (1999). Percent disease index (PDI) was computed from the final data, percent disease Data (PDI) was computed on the basis of the formula according to Krishna Prasad et al., 1979 described as below:

Achievement/Findings:

Among the treatments, seed treatment with Ridomil gold MZ 68 WG (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2% and spraying Aimstar Top (0.1%) showed the lowest PDI (24.67 % and 9.83% ) in leaf and stem respectively gummy stem blight disease management and highest in control plot (64.33% and50.83% ). Statistically similar PDI (25.33% and 11.50 %) were also observed in Nativo (0.1%) treated plots. The highest yield (58.19 t/ha and maximum disease reduction (71.15 %) was observed in Aimstar Top (0.1%) treated plots. The lowest yield (27.64 t/ha) was obtained from control plots. From the findings of the present study, it was found that that seed treatment with Ridomil gold MZ 68 WG (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2% and two sprays of Aimstar Top (0.1%) / Nativo (0.1%) /Secure (0.1%) / Timseen (0.1%) can effectively control the gummy stem blight (black rot) in bottle gourd.
