Integrated Management of Stem Rot (macrophomina Phaseolina) in Sesame

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at RARS, Rahmatpur, Barisal during 2013-2014. Management of stem rot diseases was conducted by seed treatment with Provax-200(0.2%) and spraying with Bavistin (0.1%) + Dithane M-45(0.2%), Nativo (0.1%), Ridomil gold (0.2%), Secure (0.1%) Score (0.1%), Aimstar Top (0.1%) , Neoban (0.1%) , Neem leaf extract (1:1) and Trichoderma harzanium under natural condition . From this experiment, it was found that seed treatment with Provax-200(0.2%) and two sprays of Bavistin (0.1%) + Dithane M-45(0.2%) after 30 DAS and 45 DAS effectively control the stem rot (Macrophomina phaseolina) disease of sesame.

Objectives:

The present investigation was undertaken to manage the disease.stem rot in sesame

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Rahmatpur, Barisal during kharif-1, 2013-2014. The design was RCB having 3 replications. Variety was used BARI Til-4. Sizes of the plots were 5.0m x 2.25m. The experiment was conducted under natural infection condition. Recommended doses of fertilizers (Urea 125 kg, TSP 150 kg, MoP 50kg, Zypsum 110 kg and Zincsulphate 5 kg, Boric acid 10 kg per hectare) were used. The ten treatments including control were viz. Bavistin DF (Carbendazim) @ 0.1% + Dithane M-45(Mancozeb) @ 0.2%, Nativo 75 WG (Tebuconazole+Trofloxystobin) @ 0.1%, Ridomil gold MZ 68 WG (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.2%, Secure 600 WG (Fenamidone+ Mancozeb) @ 0.1%, Score 250 EC (Difenoconazole) @ 0.1%, Aimstar Top 325 SC (Azoxystrobin +Difenoconazole) @ 0.1%, Neoben 72 WP (Mancozeb + Metalexyl) @ 0.1%, Neem leaf extract (1:1) and Trichoderma harzanium. Two sprays were given at an interval of 30 and 45 days after sowing of seeds. In general the seeds were treated with Provax- 200 WP (0.2 %) except control, Neem leaf extract and Trichoderma harzanium. Disease data were recorded before every spray using 0-4 rating scale given by Rahman and Rashid et al (2008). Percent disease index (PDI) was computed from the final data, percent disease Data (PDI) was computed on the basis of the formula according to Krishna Prasad et al., 1979 described as below:

Achievement/Findings:

Among the treatments Provax-200 WP (0.2%) + Bavistin (0.1%) + Dithane M-45(0.2%) showed the lowest PDI (11.00 %) in stem rot disease and highest in control plot (48.92 %). Statistically similar PDI (14.15 %) was also observed in Provax-200(0.2%) + Secure (0.1%) treated plots. The highest yield (1239 kg/ha), plant population /m² (63.02) and maximum number of pods per plant (80) was observed in Provax-200 (0.2%) + Bavistin (0.1%) + Dithane M-45(0.2%) treated plots. The lowest yield (792 kg/ha), plant population /m² (33.10) and maximum number of pods per plant (67.07) was obtained from control plots.

From the findings of the present study, it was found that seed treatment with Provax-200 @ 0.2% and two sprays of Bavistin (0.1%) + Dithane M-45(0.2%) at 30 DAS and 45 DAS can effectively control the stem rot (Macrophomina phaseolina) disease in Sesame.
