An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from July to December 2011 to study the yield performance of transplant amanrice cv. BRRI dhan52 under integrated use of nitrogen. The experiment included four levels of green manure (0, 5, 10 and 15 t ha-1) and five levels of nitrogenous fertilizer (0 kg N ha-1, 125 kg urea ha-1, 50 kg USG ha-1, 75 kg USG ha-1 and 100 kg USG ha-1). The experiment was laid out in a RCBD with 3 replications. The results revealed that application of green manure exerted significant influence on all plant characters and yield of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan52 except 1000-grain weight. Application of green manure @ 10 t ha-1 produced the highest number of grains panicle-1 (168.6) which eventually led to highest grain yield (5.27 t ha-1) in this treatment. Application of green manure @ 15 t ha-1 favoured the production of late tillering (highest no. of non–effective tillers hill-1 ) and thus produced lesser grain yield (5.04 t ha-1) than that of application of green manure @ 10 t ha-1. All plant characters and yield of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan52 were significantly influenced due to application of nitrogenous fertilizer. The highest number of tillers hill- 1(15.83), effective tillers hill-1 (13.48), grains panicle-1 (165.5), grain yield (5.29 t ha-1) and straw yield (6.05 t ha-1) were obtained from the application of 100 kg USG ha-1 , which were superior to those of any other level of nitrogenous fertilizer. Significant effect on plant characters and yield of transplant aman rice was also recorded due to interaction of green manure and nitrogenous fertilizers. The highest grain yield (5.74 t ha-1) was obtained from green manure 10 t ha-1 in combination with USG 75 kg ha-1 which was statistically similar with that of green manure 5 t ha-1 plus 100 kg USG ha-1. From the results obtained it can be concluded that incorporation of green manure @ 10 t ha-1 along with 75 kg USG ha-1 or 5 t ha-1 green manure with 100 kg USG ha-1 could be the best possible combination for better yield of BRRI dhan52.

To study the yield performance of transplant amanrice cv. BRRI dhan52 under integrated use of nitrogen.

The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh from July to December 2011 to evaluate the yield of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan52 under integrated use of N . The experiment included two factors: a) four levels of green manuring with Sesbania rostrata in vitro @ 0, 5, 10 and 15 t ha-1 and five sources and levels of chemical N such as 0 kg ha-1, PU 125 kg ha-1, USG 50 kg ha-1, USG 75 kg ha-1 and USG 100 kg ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Seeds of BRRI dhan52 were collected from Bangladesh Rice Research Institute. Healthy seeds were selected by specific gravity method. Seeds were then sprouted by immersing in water in bucket for 24 hours. Then the seeds were taken out of water and kept thickly in gunny bags. The seeds started sprouting after 48 hours and were sown after 72 hours in the nursery bed. For raising the seedlings, proper care was taken in the nursery bed. Weeding was done in proper time and irrigation was given also in proper time for better growth of seedlings in the nursery. During final land preparation of main field, 50-day old green manuring crop S. rostrata was collected and chopped into pieces and incorporated (in vitro) into the soil according to treatment specification. At the time of final land preparation each unit plot was fertilized with TSP, MoP, gypsum and ZnSO4 at the rate of 80, 70, 60 and 10 kg ha-1, respectively. For N application, prilled urea (PU) was applied at 15, 35 and 50 days after transplanting and USG were placed as per treatment by hand method at 8 cm depth and 10 days after transplanting in the center of 4 hills in alternate rows as per treatment. Thirty-day-old seedlings were transplanted at the rate of 3 seedlings hill-1 with the spacing of 25 cm x 15 cm. All intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. When 90% grain reached at maturity stage the sampling was done. Five hills (excluding border hills) were selected randomly from each unit plot and uprooted before harvesting for recording necessary data. The crop was harvested plotwise to record the yields of grain and straw. Data on various plant characters such as plant height (cm), number of effective tillers hill-1, number of noneffective tillers hill-1, number of total tillers hill-1, panicle length (cm), number of grains panicle-1, number of sterile spikelets panicle-1, weight of 1000-grain (g) were collected from the five sample hills from each plot. The collected data were analyzed statistically following the analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique and mean differences were adjudged by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) using a computer package program MSTAT.

The combination of green manure @10 t ha-1 plus USG @ 75 kg ha-1 produced the highest grain yield of 5.74 t ha-1, which was statistically at par with that of USG @100 kg ha-1 plus green manure 5 t ha-1 or USG 100 kg ha-1 plus green manure 15 t ha-1. So, the result revealed that application of green manure @ 10 t ha-1 seemed to be the best combination with USG 75 kg ha-1 in producing the grain yield. However, the combination of USG @100 kg ha-1 plus green manure 5 t ha-1 also appeared as one of the best combinations. The results of the study, therefore, suggested that application of green manure @ 5 and 10 t ha-1 could be followed in transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan52 for obtaining the highest yield in combination with USG @ 75 and 100 kg ha-1, respectively.
