Management of Leaf Blight of Mexican Coriander Under Field Condition

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted during 2013-14 cropping season to find out the effective fungicides for controlling the leaf blight (Eryngium foetidium L.) of Mexican coriander. Five fungicides were applied. Among them, the least incidence of leaf blight disease was recorded from Tilt application plot followed by Cupravit and Bavistin with PDI of 41.07 %, 41.59% and 40.22%, respectively.

Objectives:

The present study was undertaken to find out the effective fungicides for controlling the disease leaf blight of Mexican coriander under field condition

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted during 2013-14 cropping season with 5 fungicides namely T₁- Tilt (0.05%), T₂- Bavistin (0.1%); T₃- Dithane M-45 (0.2%); T₄- Cupravit (1.0%); T₅- Secure (0.2%); T₆- Control (plain water spray). The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. Plot size was 1m x 3m. Recommended dose of manures and fertilizers (Cow dung – 15 ton/ha, Urea-350 kg/ha, TSP-150 kg/ha, MP- 200 kg/ha, Boron- 1-1.5 kg/ha) were applied (Islam et al. 2003). Seed rate was 45 kg/ha and seed were sown in broadcasting method. All the intercultural operations were done as and when required. A total of 4 sprays were made in that season at an interval of 20 days. Data on disease severity were recorded following “0-5” scale (Saha, 2001) and then converted to percent disease index (PDI) using the formula given by Singh (1984).

Data on Seedling/ m², leaves/ plant, length, width, plant height were recorded and statistically analyzed.

Achievement/Findings:

Results revealed that all the fungicides significantly reduced the disease incidence compared to control. In case of PDI the lowest PDI was recorded from Tilt treated plot (41.07%) followed by Bavistin (44.59%), Cupravit (40.22%) although they were statistically similar. However, the highest severity was obtained from control plot (73.35%) and. the highest percent disease reduction (48.08%) was recorded in Tilt treated plot. Number of seedling varied significantly in different treatments. The highest number of seedlings (156.30/m²) was recorded in Tilt treated plots followed by Cupravit treated plots (146.25/m²⁾. The lowest number of seedling was recorded in control plots (119.00) followed by Dithane M-45 treated plots (120.77/m²). Leaves per plant was not varied in all treatments. The highest number of leaves per plant obtained from Secure treated plots (4.61) and lowest number of leaves is obtained in T₂ treated plots (4.02). All the treatment of bilatidhonia exhibited statistically similar length and width of leaf. The highest length of leaf (5.88 cm) was recorded in Cupravit and it was lowest (5.07 cm) in Control. The width of leaf was maximum (1.40 cm) in Tilt and it was minimum (1.12 cm) in Bavistin followed by Secure (1.20 cm). The effect of fungicides on plant height was not significant compared to control.

It may be concluded that Tilt considered to be the best fungicide followed by Cupravit in controlling leaf blight disease of Maxican coriander in Gazipur condition.
