The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Shibgonj, Bogra during September, 2013 to May, 2014 to determine best management option against leaf blight disease in bay leaf. Five fungicides namely Tilt-250 EC, Combi-2, Bavistin, Sunvit, Nativo, one botanical extract namely eucalyptus leaf extract and one chemical fertilizer (MoP) along with control were used in this study. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Among different treatments Tilt-250 EC performed better. The lowest (24.08) number of diseased leaves/twig was recorded in T7 {Tilt-250 EC +top dressing of MoP(200 g/plnt)}  and highest (100.20) number of diseased leaves/twig was recorded in control plant. The highest (62.60 %) percent of disease incidence/twig was found in control plant and the lowest (11.42 %) disease incidence/twig was found in T7 treated plant. The highest (36.89%) disease incidence/plant was recorded in control plant and the lowest (16.00 %) disease incidence/plant was recorded in Tilt treated plant. The highest (34.99 %) leaf area diseased/plant was recorded in control plant where as the lowest (8.54 %)  leaf area diseased/plant was recorded in Tilt treated plant.

The present study was undertaken to determine the effective fungicides/botanical against grey leaf spot in bay leaf.

This experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Bogra during September, 2013 to May, 2014, to find out the effective management practice against leaf blight disease of bay leaf. For this, twenty four small sized (about 3-4 years old) bay leaf plants were selected for treatment application. All treatments were replicated three times is randomized complete block design. Advance bay leaf line was used for the experiment.  Eight management practice viz., T1: 5% water extract of eucalyptus leaves; T2: Tilt-250 EC @ 0.1% (Propiconazole); T3:Combi-2 @ 0.1% (15% Propiconazole + 15% Difenoconazole); T4 : Bavistin @0.1% (Carbendazim); T5 : Sunvit @ 0.5% (Copper Oxychloride); T6 : Nativo @ 0.05% (trifloxystrobin 25%+Tebuconazole50%); T7: Tilt-250 EC @ 0.1% (Propiconazole) + top dressing of MoP (200 g/pant) and  T8 : Control were included in this study. Fungicides and botanical were sprayed 4 times at an interval of 15 days, started from disease initiation. MoP (200 g/pant) was applied only one time during 1st spray with Tilt 250 EC. The soil was clay loam in texture. The land was fertilized with cow dung 10 kg/plant, and N138P80K175S35  g/plant. The entire quantity of cowdung, P, K, one half of N and sulfur were applied as basal dose during 01 September, 2013. Three irrigation were applied on 04 September, 04 November and 05 December, 2013. Rest of N was applied at 25 days after 1st application as side dress. Data were recorded from five randomly selected twigs of each selected plants at 15 days interval after application of treatment.  Data were recorded on number of diseases leaves/twig, number of fresh leaves/twig, percent disease incidence/twig, percent disease incidence/plant, percent leaf area disease were recorded. Yield data was not recorded due to 3-4 years age (i.e. immature) bay leaf plant which was selected for this study. The collected data were statistically analyzed and the means were compared by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT)

Different fungicides/ management practice had significant effect on number of diseased leaves/twig, number fresh leaves/twig, percent disease incidence/twig, percent disease incidence/plant and percent leaf area diseased. The lowest (24.08) number of diseased leaves/twig was recorded in T7  {Tilt50 EC @ 0.1% (Propiconazole) + top dressing of MoP (200 g/pant)} which was followed by Tilt treated plant (33.59) and the highest (100.20) number of diseased leaves/twig was recorded in control plant. The maximum (187.6) number of fresh leaves was recorded from T7 treated plant while the  minimum (60.71) number was found in control plant. The highest (62.60 %) disease incidence/twig was found in control plant and the lowest (11.42 %) disease incidence/twig was found in T7 treated plant which was followed by Tilt (16.25 %) treated plant. The highest (36.89%) disease incidence/plant was recorded in control plant while the lowest (16.00 %) disease incidence/plant was recorded in Tilt treated plant which was followed by T7 (16.44%) treated plant. The highest (34.99 %) leaf area diseased was recorded in control plant while the lowest (8.54 %) leaf area diseased was recorded in Tilt treated plant which was followed by T7 (9.87 %) treated plant.

From the above study, it was revealed that four times foliar spray with Tilt-250 EC at 15 days interval and top dressing of MoP (200 g/plant) during spray showed better performance against leaf blight (grey leaf spot)) disease of bay leaf followed by Tilt-250 EC spray.
