A field experiment was conducted at RARS, Rahmatpur, Barisal during Rabi season of 2013-14 to evaluate the performance of lentil genotypes/lines for searching of high yielding and foot rot disease resistant variety. Three entries of lentil viz. BD-3818, BD-3932, BD-3974, and two check varieties BARImasur-1 and BARImasur-7 were evaluated in the trial. From the findings of study it was revealed that all the lines were not statistically differ from one to another except days to 1st flowering against foot rot disease of lentil. The line BD-3974 gave the highest mean yield (1577.17 Kg/ha) followed by BARImasur-7 and BD-3932 and low percent foot rot disease was observed in BD-3974, BD-3818 and BD-3932. So, three lines BD-3974, BD-3932 and BD-3818  were selected and will be handover to Pulse breeder for next year PYT program.

To find out the resistant source against foot and root rot of lentil under naturally sick plot condition.

A field experiment was conducted at RARS, Rahmatpur, Barisal during Rabi season of 2013-14 to evaluate the performance of lentil genotypes/germplasm for searching of high yielding and foot rot disease resistant genotypes. Three entries of lentil (out of 200 lines, 06 entries were selected from 1st year and out of 06 lines, 03 lines were selected from 2nd year) viz. BD-3818, BD-3932, BD-3974 and two check variety BARImasur-1 and BARImasur-7 were evaluated in the trial. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. The plot size was 2 X 3 m2 and spacing was 30 cm X 10 cm. Seeds were sown in the rows carefully by hands and covered it by soils on 20-11-2013. Two weeding were done at 25 days and 45 days after sowing. The crop was harvested within March 02, 2014 to March 06, 2014. Data on yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot. Data on disease incidence were recorded three times. The lines/entries were ultimately graded as 1-9 scoring scale as modified by Nene et al. (1981). The modified scale was 1 = 0% mortality (R), 2-3 = 10% or less mortality (MR), 4-5 = 11-20% mortality (T), 6-7 = 21-50% mortality (MS) and 8-9 = 51% or more mortality (S). Grain yield (Kg/ha) was recorded from the whole plot. Data were analyzed statistically by using MSTAT-C.

Days to 1st flowering ranged from 48.33-50.67. The highest days to 1st flowering was observed in BD-3932 and lowest was in BARImasur-1. Days to 50% flowering ranged from 56.00 – 58.67. The highest days to 50% flowering was observed in BD-3932 and lowest in BARImasur-1. Plant height ranged from 35.67 – 36.86. The highest plant height was observed in BARImasur-7 and lowest in BARImasur-1. No. of branch/plant ranged from 2.87–3.47. The highest No. of branch/plant was observed in BD-3974 and lowest in BARImasur-1. No. of pods/plant ranged from 118.47-192.60. The highest No. of pods/plant was observed in BD-3974 and BARImasur-7 and lowest in BD-3818. The highest 100 seed weight was observed in BARImasur-7 (2.30) followed by BD-3974 (2.03) and lowest in BARImasur-1 (1.83). In 2012-13, percent foot rot ranged from 32.00 – 66.50. The highest foot rot was observed in BARImasur-1 and lowest in BD-3974 and BD-3818. In 2013-14, percent foot rot ranged from 11.58 – 42.01. The highest foot rot was observed in BARImasur-1 and lowest in BD-3974 and BD-3974. Average the lowest foot rot percent in both the years was observed in BD-3974 and BD-3818 and highest was in BARImasur-1. The yield kg/ha varied from 883.50-1496.00 during 2012-13. The highest grain yield was recorded in BD-3974 followed by BARImasur-7 and BD-3932. The lowest grain yield was recorded in BARImasur-1 followed by BD-3818. In 2013-14, the highest grain yield was recorded in BD-3974 followed by BARImasur-7 and BD-3932. The lowest grain yield was recorded in BARImasur-1 followed by and BD-3818. From two years observation low percent foot rot disease was observed in BD-3974, BD-3818 and BD-3932 and highest yield was recorded in BD-3974, BARImasur-7, BD-3932 and BD-3818

From the findings of the present study of the three years observation low percent foot rot disease was observed in BD-3974, BD-3818 and BD-3932 and highest yield was recorded in BD-3974, BARImasur-7, BD-3932 and BD-3818. So, three lines BD-3974, BD-3932 and BD-3818 were selected will be handover to Pulse breeder for next year PYT program.
