Development of Tractor Driven Seeding Implement for Cereal Crops

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Four wheel tractor (4WT) driven multicrop seeder has been developed with fertilizer application unit at BARI Rajshahi, The seeder perform tilling, seeding in line, fertilizing and seed covering simultaneously in one operation. The rotating blades fixed in a circular disk which is also assembled with a square main shaft for adjusting seeding row distance. All agronomic adjustment has been incorporated with this seeder in standard mode. Flute type seed metering device used in this seeder. This seeder can also reform as bed planter with minor modification. Effective field capacity and field efficiency of the seeder is 0.56 and 78% respectively. Detail field performance to be conducted next season.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The working principle of the seeder is tilling operation, seeding in line, fertilizing during the seeding operation and seed covering simultaneously at a time in single operation. This seeder works in flat surface as well as can be used as bed formation and seeding. All agronomic adjustments such seed rate control, depth of seeding, line to line distance adjustment, multiple crop seeding are incorporated in the developed tractor driven seeder. This seeder is fabricated with locally available materials at RWRC, BARI Rajshahi. The seeder consist of different functional components. Seed and fertilizer box, mainframe, seed & fertilizer metering devices, tilling unit, furrow opener, seed delivery tube, seed covering roller, power transmission chain & sprocket. The rotating or tilling part is a common rotavetor of 4WT which is available in the market. The rotavetor is slightly modified for setting and fixing seeding accessories on it. The hitching system is as common 3-point hitch and easily linked with the tractor. The regular rotavetor blades are changed with modified blades. The blades are positioned in a circular disk and one disk consists of 4 blades. The common axel is deformed as square instead of circular shaft. The tilling blades can be adjusted moving through laterally matching with the seeding lines. The seeding and fertilizing component of the 4WT driven seeder is constructed with MS sheet. Seed and fertilizer chamber is separated from each other. Initial attempt for seed metering devices has been made flute type seed meter. But make it multiple seeding like maize, wheat, rice, pulses; the seed metering box again start modification for setting inclined plate seed metering devices. The fertilizer metering device is grove. The seed metering dye is made in RWRC Rajshahi and start producing devices. The opener is "T" type opener and setting with fertilizer application arrangement, Seed and fertilizer placement are side by side not in the same line of application. These are placed in Zig zag way and enough height for residue clearance. Power transmission system is chain and sprocket mechanism. Two springs loaded lug wheel is placed both side of the rotary part. Power for rotating seed and fertilizer metering transmit from wheel. The developed 4WT is tested for seeding wheat and maize in the on station field of Dinajpur and Rajshahi 2011.
