Development of Fertilizer Recommendation for Onion/brinjal-t. Aman Rice Cropping Pattern

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field experiment was conducted at the MLT site, Shibpur, Rajshahi during rabi 2010- 2011 in High Ganges River Flood Paling soil (AEZ-11) to verify the fertilizer package Jar Onion/Brinjal-T. Aman cropping pattern. There was four treatment viz. T₁ = STB for MYG, T₂ = STB for HYG, T₃ = IPNS for HYG and T₄ = Farmer practice. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with 6 dispersed replications. The Fertilizer management package T₃ = IPNS for HYG produced higher income from whole cropping pattern (730186 Tk ha-1/yr gross margin and BCR 5.33).

Objectives:

To find out the optimum and economic dose of fertilizers for this promising cropping pattern.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at MLT site Shibpur, Rajshahi of selected ICM club farmers field during 2010-11 in High Ganges River Flood Plain soil (AEZ-11). Geographically the experimental field is located at 24°22.98' N. latitude and 88°49.47' E. longitude with the elevation of 21 m above from the sea level. Before conducting the experiment soil sample were collected at depth of 0-15 cm for laboratory analysis. The soil was slightly alkaline (pH 8.2) having low organic matter content (0.69%). The content of total N was very low (0.035 %). Exchangeable K. content was very low (0.032 meq/100g) and the other nutrients were low in status. Therefore, the initial fertility status of the soil was reasonably poor. The four fertilizer management packages were tested and the combination of fertilizer was calculated on the basis of soil test values. The first crop of this pattern onion was sown in 15-20 January 2011 in RCB design with six dispersed replications. The unit plot size was 80 m² for teach treatment. The entire amount of P, S, Zn, Band cowdung and half of nitrogen and potassium were applied at final land preparation and mix well with soil. Remaining N and K. were applied in two equal splits as top dressed at 20 DAT and 40 DAT followed by irrigation. Six irrigations were done at immediately after transplantation, 20 DAT, 40 DAT, 55 DAT 65 DAT and 75 DAT during production. Ridomil gold (2g/L) and Shobicron (l ml/L) mixture were sprayed 3 times at 25 DAT, 35 DAT and 45 DAT. The crop was harvested on 2-5 April 11. The Onion variety was BARI piaj-1. The next crop was Brinjal (CV. Rangila) was planted at 15-20 February 11 as relay in the onion field. After harvest of onion, half P, one third K, full Sand cowdung were used as side dress followed by earthen up and irrigation. Remaining fertilizers were used in 10-12 splits in every week after harvest followed by irrigation ( if insufficient moisture) The crop was sown in 75 cm x 60cm spacing. The crop harvesting was started 15 April and continued up to on 10 August 11. The last crop of this pattern was T. Aman (CV. BRRI Dhan-39). All P, K, S and Zn were applied in soil and incorporated with soil before transplanting planting. As the soil have low soil test value 1^st one third N was applied immediately at seedling establishment and second one third at rapid tillering stage and third one third was at 5-7 days before panicle initiates stage. 30-35 days old T. Aman seedlings were transplanted in 18-20 August 11. The crop was harvested on 25-30 October 2011. All data of the pattern were compiled and analyzed statistically.

After finishing the second year experimentation it was found that IPNS basis treatment produced better than other packages as like as first year.
