Six fungicides of different groups were evaluated for their effectiveness in controlling Bipolaris leaf blight and leaf rust of wheat under field condition in two locations. The new fungicides, Samycin, Blizzard and Pasha were found very effective and comparable with Tilt and folicur in controlling both the diseases. Bipolaris leaf blight was controlled by 95-97% and leaf rust by 93-99% with significant increase in grain yield. The highest yield increase of 48% was obtained by controlling Bipolaris leaf blight with Samycin, which was followed by Blizzard. In case of leaf rust, the highest yield increase was obtained with Blizzard followed by Pasha. The fungicide Offence was ineffective in controlling the diseases.

To evaluate the tested fungicides of different groups for their effectiveness in controlling Bipolaris leaf blight and leaf rust of wheat under field condition in two locations.

Six fungicides of different groups were tested for their efficacy against Bipolaris leaf blight and leaf rust in two locations-Dinajpur and Jamalpur. The fungicides were Tilt 250 EC (Propiconazole), Folicur EW 250 (Tebuconazole), Offence 50 WP (Carbendazim), Blizzard 280 (Cyproconazole + Azoxy Trobin), Pasha II (Hexaconazole Validamycin) and Samycin 10 SL (Validamycin). Tilt and Folicur were used as standard checks and Offence, Blizzard, Pasha II and Samycin tested as new fungicides. Tilt and Folicur were applied at 0.5 ml/L, Offence at 2.0 g/L, Blizzard at 1.5 ml/L, and Pasha II and Samycin at 2.0 ml/L of the formulated product. The fungicides were sprayed twice at 15 days interval commencing from heading stage. An unsprayed control was maintained for comparison. The susceptible variety Kanchan was used for BpLB and Morocco for leaf rust. Seeds were sown in 1.2 x 2 m plots with 20 cm row-spacing in the 2nd week of December. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. Recommended doses of fertilizers were used and three irrigation were applied during the crop cycle. Disease severity was scored as percent diseased leaf area on 10 flag leaves of 10 main tillers selected randomly in each plot. Severity of BpLB was recorded according to the scale suggested by Hetzler (1992) and leaf rust severity was scored according to modified Cobb scale (Stubbs et al. 1986). Data on grain yield per plot were recorded. Percent disease reduction and yield increase over unsprayed control were calculated.

Among the six fungicides tested against Bipolaris leaf blight, Blizzard, Pasha, Samycin, Folicur and Tilt were found very effective, while Offence was ineffective in controlling the disease  in both the locations. The lowest disease severity was recorded in the plots sprayed with Tilt, which was similar to Folicur, Samycin, Blizzard and Pasha. The unsprayed plot showed the highest disease severity, which was followed by the plot sprayed with Offence. The percent disease reduction by the effective fungicides ranged from 95-97% over unsprayed plot. The highest grain yield was obtained with Samycin, and the increase in yield by this fungicide over unsprayed control was 48%, which was similar to that obtained with Blizzard. Significant control of leaf rust was observed with foliar sprays of Samycin, Blizzard, Tilt, Folicur, and Pasha, while Offence was ineffective in controlling the disease in both the locations. The unsprayed plot showed the highest disease severity, which was followed by the plot sprayed with Offence. The lowest disease severity was recorded with Samycin, which was followed by Blizzard. The highest disease severity was recorded in unsprayed plot, which was followed by Offence. The effective fungicides controlled the disease by 93-99% with 225-285% increase in grain yield over unsprayed plot. The highest increase in grain yield was obtained with Blizzard, which was followed by Pasha.

Three new fungicides Samycin, Blizzard and Pasha were found very effective in controlling Bipolaris leaf blight and leaf rust of wheat. These fungicides reduced Bipolaris leaf blight by 95-97% with 26-48% yield increase and leaf rust by 93-99% with 225-285% yield increase. The effectiveness of these fungicides is comparable with Tilt and Folicur in controlling both the diseases.
