A study was undertaken at the Farming System Research and Development (FSRD) site of Kadamshahar, Godagari, Rajshahi during 2011-2012 to evaluate the influence of different fertilizer doses on the seed yield of mustard. The treatments were soil test based (STB)  for high yield goal (HYG), STB + 25% more N of STB, STB + 25% NP of STB, STB + 25% NK of STB, STB + 25% PK of STB, STB + 25% NPK of STB, 75% of STB and control. The yield and yield components of mustard were significantly influenced by different doses of fertilizer. The highest number of siliqua plant-1 (109.5), seeds siliqua-1 (32.35) and thousand seed weight (3.12 g) were obtained from treatment STB + 25% NPK of STB. The application of higher doses of fertilizer increased the seed yield of mustard. The highest seed yield (1.59 t ha-1) was obtained from treatment STB + 25% NPK of STB showing an increase of 194.44% yield over control. The lowest seed yield (1.21 t ha-1) was recorded in control treatment. The highest marginal value product (MVP) of Tk. 57750 ha was obtained from STB + 25% NPK of STB treatment. The highest marginal benefit cost ratio (MBCR) over control (5.37) was also obtained from STB + 25% NPK of STB treatment. So, STB + 25% NPK of STB i. e. the fertilizer dose N101P25K56S11Zn1.5B0.5 kg ha-1 as optimum and economically profitable for mustard production in High Barind Tract soil.

To evaluate the effect of different fertilizer doses on the seed yield of mustard in High Barind Tract.

The experiment was conducted at the Farming System Research and Development (FSRD) site, Kadamshahar, Godagari, Rajshahi during 2011-12 to determine the effect of different fertilizers doses on seed production of mustard  in High Barind Tract. Before conducting the experiment, soil of the experimental field was collected (up to 15 cm depth) and analyzed.The soil of the experimental plots belonged to Amnura series under AEZ 26. The levels of the fertilizers were calculated on the basis of analytical results and target yields as per Fertilizer Recommendation Guide' 2007. The experiment was designed with eight treatments and laid out in a RCBD with dispersed replications. The sources of nutrients were urea for N, TSP for P, MOP for K, gypsum Ior S, zinc sulphate for Zn and boric acid for B. Half of urea and all other inorganic fertilizers were applied in individual plot according to treatment and mixed with soil at the time of final land preparation. Remaining half of urea was applied at the time of flower initiation (20 days after sowing) as top dressing followed by irrigation. The unit plot size was 4.8 m x 4 m. Seeds of mustard (variety: BARI Sharisha-14) @ 7 kg ha-1 were sown in continuous line with 30 cm spacing on last week of October, 2011. The crop was harvested at maturity on the second week of January, 2012. Recommended intercultural operations viz. weeding, thinning, irrigation, fungicide and insecticide spray were done in order to support normal plant growth. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded. Observations were made on yield components from 10 randomly selected plants per plot. The data were analyzed; statistically and the mean differences were adjudged by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The economic analysis was done for gross return, gross margin and marginal benefit cost ratio over control for different fertilizer management packages following the method.

From the results of the investigation, the treatment T6 i.e. fertilizer dose N101P25K56S11Zn1.5B0.5 kg ha-1 was found to be economically profitable for mustard production in the High Barind Tract soil.
