A field trial was conducted during the period of 2013-2014 at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Jamalpur to find the response of potassium fertilizer doses for sustainable yield, quality and shelf life of carrot. There were seven treatments comprising T1 (N100P30K0S12CD1.5t Kg/ha), T2 (N100P30K30S12CD1.5t Kg/ha), T3 (N100P30K50S12CD1.5t Kg/ha), T4 (N100P30K70S12CD1.5tKg/ha), T5 (N100P30K90S12CD1.5t Kg/ha), T6 (N100P30K110S12CD1.5t Kg/ha) and T7 is the Farmer’s practice (N60DAP90K70CD1t Kg/ha). A blanket dose of N100P30S12Zn2.5 CD1.5t kg ha-1 was applied to all the treatments except Farmers’ practice (T7). For the Farmer’s practice DAP were used instead of MOP. Among the fertilizer doses, 70 kg/ha K along with N100P30S12Zn2.5 CD1.5t kg ha-1 produced the highest yield (31.70 kg/ha) of carrot which was statistically similar with T5 (N100P30K90S12CD1.5t Kg/ha), T6 (N100P30K110S12CD1.5t Kg/ha) and T7 is the farmer’s practice that gave root yield 29.52 t/ha, 30.48 t/ha and 29.48 t/ha, respectively and the lowest yield (26.76 t/ha) was obtained from the control. The TSS value (%), wt. loss (%) was increased with the increasing of storage days. The color was light orange to deep orange with the increasing of storage days. Early rotten was occurred for control and T2 (N100P30K30S12CD1.5t Kg/ha) indicating that higher dose of potassium is necessary for sustaining quality and shelf life of carrot.

To find the response of potassium fertilizer doses for sustainable yield, quality and shelf life of carrot.

A field trial was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Jamalpur during 2013-2014 to find out the response of yield, quality and shelf life of carrot to the added potassium. Nutrient status of initial soil prior to fertilization is presented The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block (RCB) design with seven treatments replicated thrice. The unit plot size was 2m x 2m. There were seven treatments comprising Experimental treatments and cultivation procedure T1 = N100P30K0S12CD1.5t Kg/ha T2 = N100P30K30S12CD1.5t Kg/ha T3 = N100P30K50S12CD1.5t Kg/ha T4 = N100P30K70S12CD1.5t Kg/ha T5 = N100P30K90S12CD1.5t Kg/ha T6 = N100P30K110S12CD1.5t Kg/ha T7 = Farmer,s practice (T7= N60DAP90K70CD1 t Kg Carrot var. New Kuroda was used for the study. A blanket dose of N100P30S12Zn2.5 CD1.5t kg ha-1 was applied to all the treatments except Farmers’ practice (T7). For the Farmer’s practice DAP were used instead of MOP. All PKSZnB and one third of nitrogen were applied at the time of final land preparation and the remaining two third N was applied in two equal installments each at 3rd and 5th weeks of planting. The seedlings were planted at 20 cm × 20 cm spacing at 20 November, 2013. Irrigation and other intercultural management practices were done as and when necessary. The crop was harvested on 15 February, 2014 and the necessary data on different parameters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants. Yield data were taken from whole plot and were converted to per hectare yield. Then all data were computed and analyzed statistically using statistical software MSTAT-C. The analyzed data were compared with Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at 5% level.

From the above study it can be concluded that 70 kg/ha of Potassium  was necessary for maximum yield (31.70 ton/ha.) of carrot, sustaining quality and shelf life of carrot. The trial will be continued next year for the conformation of the results.
