The investigation was done with eggplant involving five treatments  during  the years 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 under field condition at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Hathazari, Chittagong,Treatments for the management of eggplant bacterial wilt (caused by Ralstonia solanacearum), were;  poultry refuge @3 t/ha + Furadan 5 G @ 20 kg/ha; mustard oil cake @ 300 kg/ha + Furadan 5 G @ 20 kg/ha; stable bleaching powder (SBP) @ 20 kg/ha; streptomycin (200 ppm) used as foliar spray and control. Application at the time of final land preparation revealed that, Ralstonia wilt in eggplant could be significantly managed by SBP @ 20 kg/ha. The results revealed that the lowest PDI (7.40 %) in plots receiving SBP followed by streptomycin (9.11 %). Maximum yield increase over the control was noted in SBP application (about 69 %) followed by streptomycin (about 62 %). Disease reduction was maximum (59.41 %) in SBP treated plot followed by Streptomycin (50.03 %) and poultry refuge + Furadan 5G (37.03 %) and also gave the highest net profit of Tk.1,94,450/ha followed by Tk.1,25,800/ha for Streptomycin, and Tk.1,06,050/ha for PR + Furadan. The results indicated that the use of SBP @ 20 kg/ha was more effective and suitable than the other treatments for the control of bacterial wilt in eggplant.

To find out a suitable method to suppress bacterial wilt and thus increase yield of eggplant in field conditions.

The experiment was conducted in the experiment field of Regional Agricultural Research Station, Hathazari, Chittagong during 2010-11 and 2011-2012 rabi seasons. The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications. The unit plot size was 3.0 m x 1.8 m and plant spacing was 75 cm x 60 cm. Eggplant variety BARI Begun-1 was used as planting material. Five treatments such as Poultry Refuge @ 3 t/ha + Furadan 5 G @20 kg/ha, Mustard Oil Cake 300 kg/ha + Furadan 5 G @ 20 kg/ha, Stable bleaching powder @ 20 kg/ha, Streptomycin (used as foliar application) and Control were used in this experiment. The experiment was conducted under natural infection conditions. Poultry refuse @ 3 t/ha and Mustard Oil Cake 300 kg/ha were added to the soil 25 days before transplanting while Furadan 5 G @20 kg/ha and Stable bleaching powder @ 20 kg/ha were incorporated into soil at the time of final land preparation. Streptomycin @200 ppm was applied as a foliar spray after the first symptoms of bacterial wilt disease of eggplant appeared and the subsequent three sprays were applied at an interval of 15 days. The experimental field was properly prepared and added recommended doses of manures and fertilizers. The plots were fertilized with cowdung, urea, TSP, MoP at the rate of 10 t, 375 kg, 150 kg, and 250 kg per hectare, respectively. All cowdung and TSP were applied during land preparation. Urea and MoP were applied with three installments-1/3rd during land preparation and remaining 2/3rd were applied at 21 and 35 days after planting. Irrigation and weeding were done as and when necessary. The wilting data were taken following the 0-5 modified scale. Disease incidence was calculated by the standard formula: Disease incidence (%) = (No. of infected plants/Total plants in the plot) x 100. Data on disease incidence was recorded weekly following initiation of disease in the field and continued up to fruiting stage. Percent disease index (PDI) was calculated following the standard formula described as follows: PDI = [ Σ(ni x vi)/V x N) ] X 100. Where, ni = number of plants with respective disease rating; vi = disease scale (0-5); V = the highest disease scale (5) and N = number of plants observed. AII the recorded data were analyzed with the Analysis of Variance Technique and mean differences were estimated by Duncun's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) using a statistical Computer Packages (MSTAT).

Based on the experimental findings, it could be concluded that, application of SBP @ 20 kg/ha at the time of final land preparation as the best treatment for controlling bacterial wilt of eggplant as well as to achieve highest yield and economic return.
