The experiment was conducted at "Organic Block" TCRC, RARS, Jamalpur during November to February 2018-19 to develop a suitable organic fertilizer package with compost tea for sustainable organic potato production and to improve properties of soil. Cultivation of potato with chemicals at the same land year after year deteriorate soil quality. Ensuring food security for the huge population for sustained organic agricultural production has become a serious challenge. The most urgent step is application of bio-products in order to ensure better and safe environment without any reduction in yield of crops. For production of organic potato (BARI Alu-28) four treatments-T1 (Compost tea on Soil), T2(Compost tea on Foliage), T3(Compost tea on Soil and Foliage) and T4 ( Control, native nutrient) were taken. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The highest yield (23.26 t/ha) were found in T3(Compost tea on Soil and Foliage) where the second highest yield (24.08 t/ha) were found in T2(Compost tea on Foliage) at final harvest. The nutrient availability was also increased in this combination. The lowest yield obtained from T4 (Control, native nutrient).

The objectives of this study to produce potato without the addition of artificial chemicals’. the systems are essentially biological systems

Experimental site and initial soil characteristics: The experiment was conducted at "Organic Block" under the experimental field of Tuber Crops Research Centre, RARS, Jamalpur during November 2018 to February 2019. The crop was planted following randomized complete block design with 3 replications. BARI Alu-28 (Lady Rosetta) was used as a test crop. The unit plot size was 3 m × 3 m maintaining line to line distance 60 cm and plant to plant distance 30 cm. The soil status before set-up experiment were analyzed in Soil Science Division, BARI. Four organic treatments T1 (compost tea on soil), T2 (compost tea on foliage), T3 ( compost tea on soil and foliage) and T4 (control, native fertilizer) were applied on BARI Alu-28 (Lady Rosetta). Three organic manure viz. vermicompost @ 5 t/ha, tricho-compost @ 5 t/ha and cowdung @ 10 t/ha was applied as basal in the field. Manures were incorporated into the soil of the respective plot seven days before final land preparation. In case of soil drenched, compost tea was drenched on the soil (5000 l/ha) with a watering cans after final land preparation, in furrow in morning and after one hour air drying of soil seed potato were planted. The again drenched on the soil before earthing up at 30 DAP (days after planting). But in case of foliar application, compost tea was sprayed on the foliage (1000 l/ha) for 5 times with a watering cans at 15 days interval to treated plots start from 15 DAP(days after planting).Without compost tea no pesticides used in this field. Weeding and irrigation was done as per requirement following organic practices and standards. Furthermore, barrier crop (organic wheat) was planted surrounding the field to reduce the pest and disease infection, mainly virus diseases. Compost tea preparation (1:2) and application rate: Compost tea preparation recipe -:

Step 1: Compost were taken in a bucket (10 kg = 5 kg compost + 5 kg vermicompost)

Step 2: Water was added in this bucket (20 litre de-chlorinated water)

Step 3: Next  1 ounce of molasses was added in this backet

Step 4: This mixture was left for 2-3 days and stired daily

Step 5: Finally this mixture was strained and liquid compost tea prepared.

Compost and vermicompost was used to prepare this. Mixing of two or more compost is better than one compost to prepare compost tea. Data collection: Data were taken on percent emergence at 30 DAP (Days after planting), plant height at 60 DAP, number of stem/hill at 60 DAP, foliage coverage at 60 DAP, plant vigor at 60 DAP, no of tuber/ plot at harvest, yield at 65 DAP, yield at 90 DAP and dry matter % at 2 days after harvest.  Data were collected on soil, yield and yield contributing characters of crop, were calculated by statistical software STAR the means were separated by LSD.

The yield contributing characters were significantly influenced by the different treatment. The highest yield obtained both 65 DAP (16.19 t/ha) and 95 DAP (23.26 t/ha) in T3 ( compost tea on soil and foliage). The second highest yield found both 65 DAP (24.08 t/ha) and 95 DAP (14.41 t/ha) in T2 (Compost tea on Foliage). The lowest yield obtained from T4 (control).  The cost involved with organic production system mainly for inputs were estimated as per prevailing market price and the output (organic potato) price was estimated assuming the price 2.0 times higher than that of conventional products. Marque et al. (2006) stated that the price of organic product was 3.31 times higher than the conventional one. The gross return and net return in organic production systems were assessed by computing the cost of the inputs and price of the produce/output. The benefit cost ratio (BCR) was calculated as follows: Benefit cost ratio (BCR) = Gross return per hectare (TK) / Total cost of production per hectare. Assuming conventionally produced potato yield 35 t/ha; other fixed cost 2,00,000 Tk/ha, a*=Considering Framgate price of 20,000/t and 40,000 Tk/t for conventional and organic potato, respectively. Input price:Land preparation, seed, manuring, irrigation, weeding, labour cost included ,Manure:cowdung @ 3 tk/kg, vermicompost @ 10 tk/kg, trichocompost @ 10 tk/kg, compost @ 6 tk/kg. Output price:organic potato@ 40 tk/kg. It can be concluded that application of compost tea both soil and foliage with basal doses of organic manures can increase potato yield in organic production.
