The field experiment was conducted at Mundopasa, Ujirpur, Barisal and Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Rahmatpur, Barisal as a control field during the rabi season of 2017 for testing, adoption and popularization of different conservation machinery such as zero-till planting method (ZT), strip-till planting method (ST), bed planting method (BP) and PTOS method along with conventional tilling and of sowing method. The tested crop was mungbean (BARI Mung-6). The cutting depth from soil for ZT, ST, BP, PTOS and power tiller were 2.76, 4.89, 11.30, 5.71 and 7.40 cm respectively. The top width of the bed of the BP method and strip width of the ST method were found 26.60 cm and 6.08 cm respectively. The effective field capacity of ZT, ST, BP, PTOS and power tiller was found to be  0.097, 0.104, 0.082, 0.111, and 0.081 ha/h, respectively. The fuel consumptions for the operation of all machines were similar except power tiller. ZT, ST, BP, PTOS saved about 60% more fuel than the power tiller. Significantly the highest grain yields were found from zero till and strip-till planting methods both on-station and on-farm conditions. Significantly the lowest grain yield was found from conventional tillage and planting methods. Farmers were interested to grow mungbean using conservation machinery. Therefore, strip-till and zero-till planting of mungbean may be popularized in the Barisal area.

The field experiment was conducted at Mundopasa, Ujirpur, Barisal and Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Rahmatpur, Barisal as control field condition during the rabi season of 2017 for testing, adoption and popularization of different conservation machinery such as zero-till planting method (ZT), strip-till planting method (ST), bed planting method (BP) and PTOS method along with traditional tilling and of sowing method. The tested crop was mungbean (BARI Mung-6). The experiment was conducted in the controlled plot of RARS, Rahmatpur, Barisal during the late rabi of 2017. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. The unit plot size was 9 m × 7 m and the total land size was 1134 m2 (28 decimal). The line spacing was 30 cm. The seed rate was 40 kg/ha. All the machines were operated by a power tiller (Saifeng model, 12.5 hp diesel engine, made in China). The seed was sown on 31 January 2017. One experimental trial was conducted in the farmers’ field in Mundopasha village of Ujirur Upazila, Barisal. The seed was sown on 23 January 2017. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. The total land area was 3600 m2. There were six treatments are as follows. CT= Conventional tillage with manual line sowing; ZT= Zero till planting; ST= Strip-till planting; BP= Bed planting; PS= Planting by power tiller operated seeder; CTl= Conventional tillage and manual line sowing; CTf= Conventional tillage and broadcasting (Farmers Practice). The crop, seed rate and line spacing were the same as used in RARS, Rahmatpur. Before planting, seed germination was tested at the laboratory and found 99%. Herbicide spraying was applied at zero tillage method and strip tillage method with Sunup (Glyphosate) before 10 DAS seed sowing. Provex (Azoxystrobin) was used at zero tillage method to mix with seed to protect soil born disease of seed. The seeds were sown continuously in 30 cm row to row distance. Thinning and other intercultural operations were done as per need. The fertilizers were used @ N20P40K20S10 kg/ha as basal for bed planting, PTOS method, conventional tillage and line sowing (CTL) and conventional tillage and broadcast method (CTf). But same amount of fertilizers was applied as top dress 15 DAS for zero tillage method and strip tillage method. One irrigation was applied during the vegetative stage at 25 DAS at the farmer’s field. No weeding was done due to less infestation of weeds at the farmer’s field. But at RARS, rahmatpur, Barisal field, two weeding was done after 20-25 DAS and before first picking. Three times spraying was applied with Imitaf (Imida chloropide), Veertako (Thiamethoxam + Clorantraniliprol), Proklem (Amamektin Benzoate), Actara (Thiamethoxam) during flowering stage up to pod filling stage, starting from 35 DAS to 49 DAS against thrips and pod borer. Soil bulk density was measured for the depth ranges of 0-10 cm using stainless steel rings having dimensions of 50 mm diameter by 50 mm height. The cores collected for bulk density were used to determine the soil moisture content by the oven drying method. The soil cores were weighed and dried at 105°C for 24 hours and weighed again to determine gravimetric water content. Data were collected from 6 randomly selected plants and from an area of 2.5 m2. The yield was recorded from the whole plot and converted into a hectare. The recorded data were compiled and analyzed using MSTAT-C programme and Exel worksheet.
