Plant Pathology Division, BARI, Gazipur

An experiment was conducted at the plant pathology division research field BARI Gazipur during the 2015-16 cropping season to find out effective management option against sclerotinia rot diseases of marigold. with seven treatments. The highest disease incidence was recorded from the control treatment (63 %) whereas the disease incidence from the Rovral was the lowest (20%). The highest (65.35%) percentage of disease severity was recorded from T7 treatment that means control treatment whereas was the lowest (19.65%) was in Rovral treatment

The present study was undertaken to find out effective management practice of marigold.

The experiment was conducted in the Plant Pathology field of BARI during the 2015-16 cropping season. The RCB design was used with three replications. Hybrid (Inka)l variety of Marigold seedling was used as planting material in this experiment. The unit plot size was 3m×2m with a  spacing of 30cm×15cm. Intercultural operations were done and where needed. Six Line per plot and 5 seedlings per line. Seven treatments were used viz. T1 = Soil drenching with  Contaf 5 EC (0.1%), T2= soil application of Tricho-compos( 2.5 t/ha), T3 = Fungicidal spray with Rovral (0.1%),  T4 = MOC (0.5t/ha) applied as a soil treatment, T5 = Application of poultry refuse in the soil @ 6 t/ha before 20 days of planting, T6 = Soil and stem application of Provex (1 g/L) and T7 = Control (Farmers practices). Rovral was sprayed 12 days interval after appearing the diseases. The plots were inspected regularly to observe the white mold disease symptoms as well as the appearance of white mycelium. Whole plots were rated for the presence or absence of disease (disease incidence) and the percentage of total flower area exhibiting symptoms or signs was determined (disease severity). The severity (Rahman and Rashid, 2008) rating 0 to 5 scale was used, where 0 = non-infected, 1 = Less than  1 % flower area infected, 2 = 1 to 10 % flower area infected, 3 = 11 to 20% flower area infected, 4 = 21 to 50 % flower area infected, 5 = More than 50 % flower area infected. For sample collection, five plants/ plots were selected randomly. Data were recorded on disease incidence, disease reduction over control, disease severity, number of infected flowers/plant and total flowers/plant. Data were analyzed for ANOVA and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) using MSTAT-C program to compare the means for all phases of the experiment.

The highest (63%) disease incidence was recorded from Control treatments whereas the disease incidence from the Rovral was the lowest (20%). In addition, poultry refuse and Tricho-compost gave more or less the same disease incidence. The incidence was about 53.33 % for each treatment. On the other hand, the disease was decreased over control Rovral treatment while the disease incidence was the lowest Provex treatments. The figures were 68.25% and 4.76 % successively. Moreover, 36.5 % and 52.38 % disease decreased over control was recorded from MOC and Contaf 5EC successively. The same figure was recorded from the Tricho-compost and Poultry refuse. The highest percentage of disease severity was recorded from the T7 treatment that means control treatment whereas the disease severity from the Rovral treatment was the lowest. These were 65.35 % and 19.65 %, respectively. Furthermore, the disease severity is 45.56% in tricho- compost and 43.48 % in poultry refuse. In the case of flowers per plant, there was no significant difference among the treatments. Meanwhile, the lowest number of infected flowers was found from Rovral treatment whereas the infected flowers from control treatments were the highest. The figures were 85.0 and 130.3 successively. However, statistically, there was no significant difference among the treatments.  In the case of the uninfected flowers, there was no significant difference among the treatments except Rovral. It gave the satisfactory result, not in only the uninfected flowers and PDI but also in disease reduction
