An experiment on the performance of some mango hybrids was carried out with 03 mango hybrids namely Hy-058, Hy-059 and Hy-106 at RHRS, Chapainawabgonj during the fruiting season of 2019-20 to know the detailed information on plant growth, fruit characteristics and yield. Among the mango hybrids, the maximum tree volume was recorded in Hy-059 (369.71 m3) and the minimum tree volume was recorded in Hy-106 (118.00 m3). Fruit weight was maximum in Hybrid-106 (650. 00 g) while the minimum fruit weight was in Hybrid-058 (240.00 g). The highest yield of fruit was recorded in Hy-106 (162.00 kg) while the lowest yield was in Hy-058 (48.00 kg). Hy-106 had maximum edible portion (88.46%) whereas minimum edible portion (74.71 %) was registered in Hy-059. Maximum TSS (25.50 %) was recorded from Hy-106 while minimum TSS (21.00%) was in Hy-059. The highest fruit fly infestation at the time of harvest was recorded in Hy-106(15.50 %) while low infestation was found in Hy-058(10.50 %). The mango hybrid Hy-106 showed the highest disease incidence (18.10%) while the lowest disease incidence was found in Hy-058(15.20%). Stem end rot was absent in all the mango hybrids. Maximum shelf life was found in Hy-106(9 days) and minimum shelf life was found in Hy-058 (8days) and Hy-059 (8 days).

To investigate Physico-chemical characteristics along with growth and yield potentiality of some mango hybrids grown at Chapai Nawabgonj. 

The hybridization in mango was started in 1993 at Regional Horticulture Research Station, Chapainawabganj. Till today 116 mango hybrid plants were developed in different years. Among them some mango hybrids are flowering and fruiting conditions and few hybrids are not flowering and fruiting conditions. Only Hy-017 has released as BARI Aam-4 in 2003. Rest of the mango hybrids were evaluated in several years but the results were not so good except some promising mango hybrids. This year three mango hybrids and their respective parents with specific objectives were used in the study. Among them Hy-058 and Hy-059 have developed in 2005 and were planted in 2006 in the main field, Hy-106 has developed in 2013 and was planted in 2014 in the main field. Both the distances between plant to plant and row to row were 8 m and having no replication. These three mango hybrids were considered as experimental treatments. Cultural operations such as fertilization, weeding and irrigation were done as and when necessary. Fertilizer doses were as per recommendation (Hossain, 1989 a). Irrigation was applied twice once at panicle stage and another at pea stage (Uddin et al. 2007b) in Basin method as per recommendation of Uddin et al. (2007a). Cypermethrin (Ripcord 10EC) @ 1 ml and Mencozeb (Dithane M-45) @ 2 g per liter of water were sprayed with the help of a power sprayer, at panicle and pea stage of fruits to control mango hoppers and anthracnose as per the recommendation of Hossain (1989 b). Tree volume was calculated by the formula given by Castle (1983) as tree volume = 1/6×p × height × (2r) 2 where, 2r = (east-west + north-south canopy spread)/2, expressed in m3. Fruits were harvested at proper maturity. Quantitative characters such as fruit weight, fruit size, stone weight, stone size, TSS (%), edible portion (%) and qualitative characters such as colour at ripening stage, pulp colour, peeling quality etc were recorded. Data on insect pests and diseases in natural conditions were recorded and post-harvest behavior of ten fruits stored under normal room temperature was also recorded.

The present study revealed that considering overall performances especially yield, number of fruits, fruit weight and even percent edible portion, colour, eating quality and total soluble solids (TSS) Hy-058, Hy-059 and Hy-106 were found promising and evaluation of Hy-059 and Hy-106 were completed this year. So, Hy-059 and Hy-106 may be released as variety.
