Groundnut harvesting is a time consuming and labour intensive operation during peak seasons. Harvesting operation by power operated groundnut harvesting machine is ongoing agricultural mechanization expectation to harvest groundnut in right time and save harvesting time. This study of a power tiller mounted groundnut harvesting machine was developed by the modification of BARI potato planter with the available locally collected materials in Mahbub engineering workshop during the crop season 2019-20 for harvesting of groundnut for small and medium scale farmers during the peak time. The modification was done by the increasing length of the conveyer belt and power transmission system. The harvesting machine consisting of digging blade, conveyer flat chain, guide plate and power transmission system. The dimension of the groundnut harvester was 705 x 670 x 510 mm. The field test experiment will be conducted next year to characterization of harvesting parameters.

a.To develop and operate a powered groundnut harvesting machine for small and medium size farms that is suitable to the local soil and environmental conditions;

b. To evaluate field performance considering soil moisture effects on the machine; and

c. To measure pods loss at different conditions and comparing it with manual harvesting method.

Design Consideration: The design considerations for developing of groundnut harvester were the following: i) this machine is operated in a pull type and mounted with a power tiller of 12 hp ii) machine design was made with consideration of groundnut row to row spacing of 650 mm, iii) it should be simple in construction and making it easy for handling, iv) design should be for digging at 7-10 cm under dry conditions considering soil moisture content of 12-15%. Design Parameters: The design of groundnut harvester was developed based on the adoption of BARI potato planter, which was developed by Hoque, et al. (2019).  The groundnut harvesting machine was made by modification of potato harvester, where conveyer belt and power transmission system were increased and has consisting of following main different parts: 1. Digger blade; 2. Transmission system through chain and sprocket; 3.. Conveyer Chain; 4. Gear box; 5. Furrow guide/slider; and 6. Main frame. Description: The dimension with particulars of main parts of the machine is shown.The groundnut harvesting machine was constructed in Mahbub engineering workshop at Jamalpur. The shape of the main frame of machine is like a rectangular section which was made by welding of MS sheet of 705 x 310 x 210 mm. This main frame is attached with the single point hitching drawbar which was connected to power tiller by gear box. The MS sheet having thickness of 3 mm was used to make a digger blade and welded to the in front of machine main frame which was maintained inclined angle to the ground up to 30 degrees. The conveyer chains are consisting of 10 mm diameter rods and the length of 650 mm. The conveyer chains were welded to the main frame by the two positions and the spacing between the circular rods of chains was maintained at 20 mm. Total set up can be moved forward and backward depending upon the field conditions and groundnut row to row spacing in the field. Furrow guide keep the machine in stable condition and prevent the digger from lateral movements. Power Transmission System: Groundnut machine is operated with 12 hp power tiller. Operating power from engine fly wheel goes to the gear box by means of belt-pulley and differential assembly which again goes to the conveyer chains through chain and sprocket. Field Performance Parameters: Fuel Consumption- The machine started working the plot with full tank, after finishing the plot, the tank will need to refill using measuring cylinder. The amount of fuel used to refill the fuel tank will be recorded. The fuel consumption rate was calculated (Zaied et al., 2014). Measurement of Speed- The digging velocity was calculated following (Zaied et al., 2014). Measurement of Theoretical Field Capacity- Theoretical field capacity in each plot was computed using the equation (Zaied et al., 2014). Measurement of Effective Field Capacity- Effective field capacity was calculated (Zaied et al., 2014). Measurement of Field Efficiency:- measurement of field efficiency was calculated. Harvesting efficiency- Harvesting efficiency of the machine will be determined.

The groundnut harvesting machine has been designed and fabricated. Fabrication was executed considering all the design parameters. The harvesting performance mainly depends on the design parameters, moisture content of soil and forward speed of the power tiller. This is the first-year experiment which will be continued next year for field trail to evaluate field performance and characterization of harvesting machine.
