Laboratory Test and Calibration of Chinese Hand Tractor (cht) Seeder for Cereal Crops

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Experiments were conducted for the calibration of (CHT) seeder with wheat, paddy and chickpea. For the grain size (6.5 mm X 3.0 mm), the concave clearance and fluted roller setting in the CHT seeder at 3 and 10 mm respectively the seed rate for wheat (110-130) kg/ha) was obtained. Though CHT seeder was designed for wheat only but by proper setting of the metering concave (10 mm) and length of fluted metering roller (5-7 mm) paddy was sown successfully with the seed rate between 45 to 60 kg/ha. For chickpea sowing by CHT seeder the setting of the metering concave and length of fluted metering roller were found to be at 12 and (5-7 mm) levels respectively.

Objectives:

To calibrate the CHT seeder for different cereal crops.

Methodology:

The seeder was calibrated at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Gazipur and its Regional Stations at Rajshahi. The seeder was calibrated for wheat and paddy at Gazipur and for paddy and chickpea at Rajshahi. The length of test runs at Gazipur and Rajshahi were 60 and 25 meters respectively. Altogether four (4) experiments were conducted for the calibrations as follows: Experiment I Location: BRRI, Gazipur threshing floor (Concrete) Wheat variety: length (mm) : 6.5 Width (mm) : 3.0 1000 grain weight(gm) : 38.5 Experiment II Location: BRRI threshing floor (Concrete) Paddy variety: BRRI dhan29 length (mm) : 8.89 Width (mm) : 2.35 1000 grain weight(gm) : 20.3 Experiment III Location of test: BRRI Regional station, Rajshahi threshing floor (Concrete) Paddy variety: BR11 length (mm) : 7.6 Width (mm) : 2.8 1000 grain weight(gm) : 23.70 Experiment IV Location of test: BRRI Regional station, Rajshahi threshing floor (Concrete) Chickpea: Diameter (mm) : 6.04 1000 grain weight(gm) : 184.0 The two settings i.e. (a) concave clearance and (b) the length of metering roller were set at different levels in order to obtain the desired seed rate for different crops. For all the tests seeds dispensed from each of the six metering points were collected separately in polyethylene bags. They were weighed and the seed rates (kg/ha) were calculated and the breakage percentages were also calculated.
