The field experiment was conducted at SRC, Bogra and SRSC, Lalmonirhat, during the rabi season of 2008-2009 to observe the regional performances of some garlic lines. Two promising lines GC0012 and GC0013 including BARI Rashun-1 as check were selected for the study. In both the locations, GC0013 gave the highest yield (8.50 t/ha, 7.20 t/ha). BARI Rashun-1 performed the lowest yield (6.67 t/ha, 4.93 t/ha) in both the locations. The disease incidence is also lower in GC0013 compare to check one.
Performance, Region, Garlic
Variety and Species
To study the performance of garlic lines at different agro-climatic zones.
The trial was conducted at Spices Research Center, Bogra and Spices Research Sub-center, Lalmonirhat during the rabi season 2008-2009. The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications having unit plot size 3 X 1.5 m and spacing 20 X 10 cm. The promising lines were GC0012 & GC0013 along with BARI Rasun-1 as check. Cloves were planted on 2 November, 2008. The crop was fertilized with cow-dung, urea, TSP, MP & gypsum @ 5 tons/ha, 21.7 kg/ha, 267 kg/ha, 333 kg/ha and 111 kg/ha, respectively. The entire quantity of cow-dung, TSP, MP, gypsum and 1/3 urea were applied during final land preparation. The rest of urea was applied in two equal splits at 30 and 50 days after planting. Intercultural operations like, irrigation, weeding, mulching and spraying of fungicides were done on need based. Crops were harvested when more than 50% of leaves became dry from tip. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded and analyzed statistically and the mean were compared by LSD method (Gomez & Gomez, 1984).
Annual Research Report,SRC,BARI
Plant height, length of cloves, bulb length .width and weight, number and width of cloves were found significantly difference among the tested lines and variety. Garlic line GC0013 produced the tallest plant (65.67cm) while GC0012 gave the shortest plant (55.63). Maximum number of leaves (11.0) was obtained from the line GC0013 and the minimum from GC0012 (9.0). The heaviest bulb (33.23g) was obtained from the line GC0013 and the lightest (23.23g) from BARI Rashun-1. Length of leaves was maximum (43.90cm) in GC0013 and minimum in GC0012 (36.07cm). The highest yield (8.50t ha-1) was obtained from the line GC0013 and the lowest from BARI Rashun-1(6.67t ha-1).
Disease infestation rating was also showed the lowest in the superior line GC0013.
The highest yield and yield contributing characters were recorded from GC0013 than that of GC0012 and check BARI Rasun-1
Results of previous year of this study were more or less similar to this year. So, GC0013 might be released as a new variety of garlic.
