An experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station Jamalpur during 2010-2011 to find out the resistant cultivars of potato against root-knot nematode. The experiment was conducted at permanent bed where nematodes were inoculated before. Among the 26 cultivars, only 7 cultivars namely, Toscana, Agila, Challenger, Almera, Granola, Spunta and Bellini were found free from infection. Maximum infection of 40% was found incase of Innovator and Red scarlet.
Screen, Potato, Cultivar, Nematode
To screen out the resistant potato cultivars against root-knot diseases.
About 26 cultivars of potato with Diamant and Cardinal as check were tested against root-knot nematode. The experiment was conducted in the permanent bed where nematodes were inoculated from the infected root of bottle gourd, tomato and brinjal plant. Infected roots were collected and placed in the soil of the permanent bed, watered and then susceptible host jute was allowed to grow for 1.5 months up to sowing of potato. During potato sowing susceptible host jute was uprooted, examined the gall of nematode and the selected roots containing galls were incorporated with the soil. Recommended doses of fertilizers and manures were applied. Five potato tubers of each variety were sown in a row on December 25, 2010. Seed to seed distance was 20 cm and line to line distance was 30cm. Weeding, fungicide application and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. After maturity plants were harvested on March 28, 2011 and data were taken.
