The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of mulch, botanicals and chemical insecticides for the management of sweet potato weevil during 2010-2011 at Joydebpur. Among the treatments, the lowest number of tuber damage (4.09%) and weevil population was found in Neem oil cake treated plots which differed statistically from other treatments. Results of weevil infestation in relation to tuber size and maturity revealed that the infestation starts from the initiation of tuberisation. Infestation was more in mature big tubers indicate the weevil incidence start very early in the untreated plots.

To manage the sweet potato weevil by integrated way.
The experiment was carried out in the experimental fields of TCRC, BARI at Joydebpur following RCBD design with three replications. Vines of Kamlasundari was used a planting materials. Unit plot size was 3m x 3m maintaining a spacing 60 cm x 30 cm. Fertilizer were used as per TCRC recommended dose. The experiment was set on 23.11.10. Four treatments Viz. Straw mulch, Neem oil cake, Carbofuran 5G and Carbofuran 5G + Straw mulch were included in the study. There was an untreated control. Neem oil cake and Carbofuran 5G were applied during land preparation. After the vine adapted in the soil than straw mulch has been used. At harvest, data were collected on the parentage of tuber damage by number and weight, non-infested tubers and yield of tubers. The population builds up of the weevil in tuber samples (2 kg tuber each) collected at random from the treatment and control plots were kept in laboratory for one month for emergence of the adult weevils. Tuber damage in relation to tuber size was also ascertained to observe the initiation of infestation in the treatment and the control. For this, sample of tubers (5 kg each) at random were taken from the treatment and control and infestation on the root of different sizes Viz. less than 100 g, 100-200 g and grater than 200g was assessed and the percentage of damage calculated.

The Neem oil cake and Carbofuran 5G +Straw mulch are effective in controlling sweet potato weevil which reduce the rate of tuber infestation.
