Four saline tolerant germplasms along with BARI SP-6 and BARI SP-7 were tested at Patuakhali, Satkhira, Noakhali, Cox’sbazar and Joydebpur during 2010-11. Considering the mean yield of varieties over five locations, SP-498 yielded the highest (22.27 t/ha) followed by SP-560 (21.21 t/ha) but the lowest mean yield was found in SP-264 (16.71 t/ha). In consideration of both qualitative and quantitative characters, SP-498 and SP-560 may be selected for further trial.

To select suitable variety for saline areas

The experiment was conducted in farmers field of Patuakhali, Noakhali, Satkhira and Cox`s bazar saline areas and under normal field condition at Joydebpur during the winter season of 2010-11. Seven sweet potato germplsms were included in the study. Vines were planted on 9th November, 2010 in the field having a plot size of 3.0 x 3.0 m and replicated thrice following RCBD. The crop was fertilized with recommended doses. Crop was harvested on 12th April, 2011. Data on phenotypic characters, yield and yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants. The salinity level of different locations were 3.81-13.53 ds/m, 2.73-8.23 ds/m, 2.37-19.23 ds/m and 3.40-8.67 ds/m at Patuakhali, Satkhira, Noakhali and Cox’s bazar respectively.
