The field experiment was conducted at Kishoregonj during rabi 2000-2001 and 2001-2002. The crop variety Zhingabadam and the bradyrhizobial strain RAh-892 were used in this experiment. The experiment was designed in RCBD having 4 replications in each treatment. Unit plot size was 6 m x 4 m. There were five treatments (T1: NPKSZn, T2: PKSZn + Inoculum, T3: PKSZn, T4: Inoculum and T5: Control). Where relevant, the above rhizobial inoculum and chemical fertilizers were used @ 1.5 kg Inoculum ha-1, 100 kg N ha-1 from urea, 44 kg P t ha-1 from TSP, 84 kg K t ha-1 from MP, 40 kg S ha-1 from gypsum and 5 kg Zn t ha-1. It was observed that inoculated plants gave statistically higher nodule number and nodule weight compared to other treatments without inoculum. Plant receiving inoculum recorded higher nodule number (15.8 plant-1) and nodule weight (320 mg plant-1). Plants receiving only inoculum produced the highest grain yield of 1.38 t ha-1 (31% higher over control) in 2000-2001. Plants receiving all fertilizers except nitrogen along with inoculum recorded significantly higher number of nodule, nodule weight and seed yield in 2001-2002.

Groundnut was sown on December 09, 2001 at Kishoregonj. The experiment was designed in RCBD having 4 replications in each treatment. Unit plot size was 6m x 4m. The variety Zhingabadam and peat based bradirhizobial inoculum (strain Rah-892) was used for the above experiment. There were five treatments (N P K S Zn, P K S Zn + Inoculum, P K S Zn, Inoculum and Control). Where relevant, the above rhizobial inoculum and chemical fertilizers were used @ 1.5 kg inoculum/ha, 100 kg N/ha from urea, 44 kg P/ha from TSP, 84 kg K/ha from MP, 40 kg S from gypsum and 5 kg Zn/ha from ZnSO4. During the course of the experiment, growth and development of plants in the field were carefully observed. Plants along with roots were collected at 50% flowering stage from each unit plot and dry weight of shoots and nodules including nodule numbers were recorded. Final harvest of plants was completed on June 01, 2002. Dry weight of grain and stover for each unit plot was recorded.

Inoculated plants gave higher nodule number and nodule weight compared to other treatments without inoculum. Plant receiving all fertilizers except nitrogen plus inoculum recorded significantly higher nodule number (548/10 plants) and nodule weight (1234 mg/10 plants). With respect to yield, plants receiving all fertilizers except nitrogen but inoculum produced highest nut yield of 2.14 t/ha (44% higher over control).
