The experiment was conducted in two locations viz. Spices Research Center, Bogra and Spices Research Sub-Center, Faridpur during 2010 -2011.The treatments were viz. T1) Ginger + summer onion + ribbed gourd + country bean, T2) Ginger + summer onion + yardlong bean + bottle gourd , T3) Ginger + chilli + ribbed gourd + country bean, T4) Ginger + chilli + yardlong bean + bottle gourd, T5) Ginger + lalshak + ribbed gourd + country bean, T6) Ginger + lalshak + yard long bean + bottle gourd, T7) Sole ginger .The results indicated that the higher (18.01 t/ha) ginger equivalent yield was obtained at Bogra and the lower (13.41 t/ha) was found at Faridpur. It was observed that the highest (18.87 t/ha) ginger equivalent yield was obtained in T2 treatment and the lowest (11.37 t/ha) in T7. Ginger equivalent yield was found better at Bogra and it was the higher (23.96 t/ha) in T4 treatment and the lowest was at Faridpur with T7 (9.31 t/ha) treatment. The highest net return (Tk. 975254) was obtained in T2 treatment with a BCR of 1:4.88 and the highest (2.25) LER was present in T6 treatment.

  Farming System
  Chilli, Vegetables
  1. To evaluate the yield performance and profitability of ginger intercropped with legume and non-legume crops
  2. To increase productivity per unit area of land, judicious use of land resource, farming inputs
  3. To minimize risk of total crop failure due to aberrant weather condition or pest epidemics.

The experiment was conducted in two locations viz. Spices Research Center, Bogra and Spices Research Sub-Center, Faridpur during 2010 -2011. The best treatments combination with ginger from previous years (2008-2010) experiment was selected for this experiment. The planting materials were ginger, lalshak, summer onion, chilli, snake gourd, yardlong bean, bottle gourd and country bean. The treatments were- T1) Ginger + summer onion + ribbed gourd + country bean, T2) Ginger + summer onion + yardlong bean + bottle gourd , T3) Ginger + chilli + ribbed gourd + country bean, T4) Ginger + chilli + yardlong bean + bottle gourd, T5) Ginger + lalshak + ribbed gourd + country bean, T6) Ginger + lalshak + yard long bean + bottle gourd, T7) Sole ginger .BARI Ada -1, BARI Morich – 1, BARI Piaz- 3, BARI Sim-1, lalshak, bottle gourd, yardlong bean and snake gourd were used in this study. The single factor experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The size of unit plot was 4.0 m x 1.8 m. Ginger was planted with the spacing of 60 cm x 30 cm. Two lines of lalshak were sown between two rows space of ginger and other two lines were out side the row. Similarly, eight lines of summer onion were planted in two inter row space and out side the row with the spacing of 10 cm x 10 cm. Four lines of chilli were planted followed by lalshak having plant to plant spacing of 50 cm. viz. cow dung, urea, TSP, MP, gypsum and zinc oxide @ 5000, 220, 180, 170, 110 and 3 Kg/ha respectively. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded.

The results indicated that the main crop gave the higher (15.03 t/ha) yield at Bogra and the lower (8.86 t/ha) at Faridpur. The ginger equivalent yield had shown significant differences in two locations. The higher (18.01 t/ha) ginger equivalent yield was obtained at Bogra and the lower (13.41 t/ha) was found at Faridpur. The highest main crop yield (13.98 t/ha) was found in T4 followed by T2 (13.36 t/ha) and the lowest (10.45 t/ha) was in T6. The ginger equivalent yield had shown significant differences among different treatments. The highest ginger equivalent yield (18.87 t/ha) was obtained in T2 followed by T4 (18.23 t/ha) and the lowest (11.37 t/ha) was found in T7. The component crop yield was found that T1 gave the highest component crop yield (Summer onion-5.78 t/ha, ribbed gourd-9.21 t/ha and country bean-10.79 t/ha), T4 gave the highest yield (3.45 t/ha) in chilli, T5 showed the highest yield (15.34 t/ha) in lalshak, T6 gave higher yield (25.40 t/ha) in bottle gourd. The highest net return (Tk. 975254) was obtained in the ginger inter-cropped with summer onion, yard long bean and bottle gourd with a BCR (4.88). Ginger with summer onion-yardlong-bean -bottle gourd and chilli- yardlong bean-bottle gourd was the best intercrop combination in respect of yield and profitability. The technology should be dessement among the farmers.
