Identification of Different Pests and Diseases of Watermelon Grown Under Joydebpur Condition

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Fusarium spp., Oidium spp., Cercospora, Didymella bryoniae, Pseudoperonospora cubensis, virus, meloidogyne spp and Jassicides, Aphids, Epilachna beetle, fruit & fruit fly were identified against the diseases of Fusarium wilt of water melon, powdery mildew of watermelon, cercospora leaf spot of water melon, gummy stem blight, downy mildew of water melon, leaf mosaic of water melon, root knot nematode of watermelon and insect infestation were also identified..

Objectives:

To identify the diseases of watermelon Grown Under Joydebpur Condition

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted in Plant Pathology experimental field during rabi season 2006-07. The seeds were sown in poly bag on 15th January 2007 at the rate of two seeds/bag. After 25 days seedlings were planted in experiment field. The plot size was 3m X 3.2m and 6 seedlings were planted per plot. All types of intercultural operations such as irrigation weeding etc were done as and when necessary. RCB design was followed with three replications. No chemicals were applied. The experiment at field was visited time to time and closely observed. Whenever any symptomes of disease were noticed, the infected samples were brought to the laboratory. The samples were cultured on both PDA and moist chamber. The fungi grown on the culture were observed under sterio and compound microscope. Insects presents on the water melon plants were identified with the help of entomologists. The fungi bacteria, insects and nematode disease which were found under microscope were recorded.
