An experiment of nutrient requirement for T.Aman rice in T.Aman-Potato-Mungbean cropping pattern was conducted at RARS Jessore and ARS Bogra during November 2003 to May 2005. Four fertilizer doses viz. F1=N70 P20 K37 S10 Zn4, F2= N60 P18 K33 S10 Zn4, F3= N50 P16 K29 S10 Zn4 and F4= N40 P14 K25 S10 Zn4 kg/ha were tested on BR 33 variety of T. Aman rice. Potato and mungbean were the preceding crops of the pattern and mungbean residues were incorporated into the soil. Grain yield of T.Aman rice remained stable with decreasing fertilizer dose to N60 P18 K33 S10 Zn4 kg/ha but further reduction of fertilizer levels decreased grain yield significantly at both the sites. The yield of both potato and mungbean were unchanged at different treatments. Residual effects of potato and incorporation of mungbean residues into the soil reduced fertilizer (14% N, 10% P and 11% K) requirement of T.Aman rice. Based on total productivity and economic return of the pattern, N60 P18 K33 S10 Zn4 kg/ha may be considered as the economic and profitable fertilizer dose of T.Aman rice (instead of N70 P20 K37 S10 Zn4 kg/ha) in this cropping pattern.

To find out fertilizer requirement of T.Aman rice in T.Aman-Potato-Mungbean cropping pattern .

Experiment on T. Aman-Potato-Mungbean cropping pattern was initiated during November 2003 at  RARS, Jessore (AEZ 11) and ARS, Bogra (AEZ 4). Before starting experiment initial soil samples at 0-20 cm depth were collected from both the sites and analyzed.  Potato with recommended fertilizer (N161 P43 K130 S22 Zn4 kg/ha) and mungbean without fertilizer were grown in a large plot as preceding crops. The results of potato and mungbean are not shown. After pods picking, mungbean residues were incorporated into the soil. The performance of T. Aman rice was tested against four fertilizer doses viz. F1=N70 P20 K37 S10 Zn4 (recommended dose), F2= N60 P18 K33 S10 Zn4, F3= N50 P16 K29 S10 Zn4 and F4= N40 P14 K25 S10 Zn4 kg/ha. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The unit plot was 3m x 4m. The full amount of PKSZn was applied as basal in the form of triple super phosphate, muriate of potash, gypsum and zinc sulphate, respectively. Thirty-day aged seedlings of BRRI dhan33 were transplanted with 20 cm x 10 cm spacing on July 27, 2004 at Jessore and on July 24, 2004 at Bogra. Nitrogen was top-dressed in three equal splits at 15, 30 and 45 DAP. Intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. Potato was grown with recommended fertilizer dose at T. Aman field of both the sites during rabi season of 2004-2005. The full amount of PKSZn and 1/2 N were applied as basal in the form of urea, triple super phosphate, muriate of potash, gypsum and zinc sulphate, respectively. Potato tubers (cv. Cardinal) were planted with 60 cm x 25 cm spacing on November 24, at Jessore and November 27, 2004 at Bogra. The remaining N was top-dressed at 30 DAE before earthing up the crop. Three irrigations were given at 20, 40 and 60 DAE. After harvesting of potato, mungbean was grown in the same plots of both the sites during early Kharif season of 2005. Seeds of mungbean (cv. BARI Mug- 5) were sown without fertilizer at 30 cm x 10 cm spacing on March 07, at Jessore and March 08, 2005 at Bogra. A pre-irrigation was given for proper emergence of the crop. After harvesting of pods, mungbean plants were incorporated into the soil. Data on yield and yield components of T.Aman, Potato and Mungbean were analyzed statistically and the means were adjudged by Least Significance Difference (LSD) test.
