The experiment was conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi, Pabna during Rabi (winter season), 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 to find out the optimum dose of N and K fertilizer for higher yield of garlic under zero tillage straw mulched condition. Three levels of nitrogen (60, 120 and 180 kg N/ha) and four levels of potash (30, 60, 90 and 120 kg K2O/ha) were included in the first year. But five levels of nitrogen (100, 120, 140, 160 and 180 kg N/ha) and three levels of potash (90, 120 and 150 kg K2O/ha) were used in the 2nd year. Individual effect of nitrogen and potash on the bulb yield of garlic were found significant in the 1st year. Application of 180 kg N/ha produced the highest (9.06 t/ha) yield of garlic which was identical to that obtained from 120 kg N/ha (8.90 t/ha). Similarly the highest (8.93 t/ha) bulb yield of garlic was recorded from 120 kg K2O/ha. In the 2nd year the highest bulb yield (12.77 t/ha) was obtained from 140 kg N/ha when coupled with 150 kg K2O/ha which was identical to 160 kg N/ha with 120 kg K2O/ha (12.50 t/ha) and 160 kg N/ha with 150 kg K2O/ha (12.24 t/ha). The lowest bulb yield (6.98 t/ha) was recorded from 100 kg N/ha with 90 kg K2O/ha.

To find out the optimum dose of N and K fertilizer for higher yield of garlic under zero tillage mulched condition.

The experiment was conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi, Pabna during rabi (winter) season, 2003-2004 and 2004-2005. The land was medium high and the soil was clay loam in texture. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. In 2003-2004, three levels of nitrogen viz., 60, 120 and 180 kg N/ha were assigned to the main plot and four potash levels viz., 30, 60, 90 and 120 kg K2O/ha were assigned to the sub plot. Treatments were re-arranged based on the findings and suggestions of the first years trial and accordingly, in 2004-2005, five levels of nitrogen viz., 100, 120, 140, 160 and 180 kg N/ha and three levels of potash viz., 90, 120 and 150 kg K2O/ha were included in the study. The unit plot size was 3m x 3m. The crop was sown on 02 December in 2003 and 10 November in 2004 and harvested on 01 April in 2004 and on 23 March in 2005. The local cultivar of garlic was used as the test crop. The crop was fertilized as per treatment mentioned above. In addition 80 kg P2O5 and 10 kg S/ha were used as blanket dose. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were taken and analyzed statistically. The mean values were adjudged by DMRT.
