Selection of F2 Population for Variety Development.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Objective of this study was to select desirable progenies for initiating pedigree nursery for next stage variety development. Twenty five F2 Populations were grown under this experiment. Seeds were sown in lines under dry direct seeded upland rice condition. From this study, desirable plants were selected from 23 crosses flowing the principles of bulk method for handling the segregating population.

Objectives:

To select desirable progenies for initiating pedigree nursery for next stage variety development.

Methodology:

Twenty five F2 Populations were grown under this experiment. Seeds were sown in lines under dry direct seeded upland rice condition. The lines were 25 cm apart and seeding was done on 22nd April. The population size of each cross was ranged from 1500 to 3000 plants depending on availability of F2 seeds. Fertilizes were applied @ of 60:40:40 kg NPK/ha. Gypsum and Zinc Sulfate were applied @ of 100 kg/ha respectively.Total amount of P,K,Gypsum and Zinc Sulfate were applied at the time of final land preparation. Nitrogen was applied in three equal splits at 15, 30 and 45 days after seedlings emergence. Weeding was done in two/three times during the period of early seedling to maximum tillering stages.
