A survey of the pineapple production situation both at Madhupur Upazila of Tangail and Rangamati Sadar Upazila of Rangamati Hill district was carried out to know the situation of Year round pineapple production through flower inducing chemicals at Tangail and Rangamati hill districts. The study revealed that Preparation prior to hormone application was taken and necessary notes were taken about the plant growth condition. Hormone application time schedule was revised due to not reaching optimal growth condition of the crop as prevailing prolong drought in the country. The commercial brand of ethrel as trade name with “Ripen-15” was chosen for its availability in the market by discussing with the personnel from National Agricare Import and Export Ltd. being the distributors of the brand. Hormonal dosage were revised for application in case of Giant kew variety for proper effectiveness for flower induction. Horticulturist from HRC,BARI visited the farmers field to see the situation of partial and fully non effectiveness of used hormone. Training of two hundred farmers including special for elite farmers for eight demonstration, one hundred from each of the site of Madhupur and Rangamati were conducted.

i. To produce pineapple using etherel and ensure stable supply of pineapple round the year. ii. To increase income and improve livelihood of farmers in selected Pineapple growing areas of Rangamati and Tangail districs. iii. To promote cropping intensification through production of pineapple in the unutilized or underutilized hill slopes iv. To improve farmers’ skill and capacity for production of pineapple Round the year in the project areas.

The Major activities undertaken during the project period from August 2008 to December-09 are as follows: I) Bench mark survey: A survey of the pineapple production situation both at Madhupur Upazila of Tangail district and Rangamati Sadar Upazila of Rangamati Hill district was carried out. Farmer’s field survey of the crop was accomplished. The team visited two pineapple growers co-operative society at Madhupur namely: i) Idilpur Anarash chashi Bahumikhi Shamabai Shamity ii) Haludia Anarash chashi Samabai Shamity. Discussion was made with the farmers about the application of proper hormone following a schedule in plant so that pineapple can be harvested at off season time to get more price of their product. Farmers were unanimously agreed to follow the practice as described by the team. Farmers were also selected by visiting their field for conducting demonstration of the year round pineapple production. Rangamati Hill district: A group discussion was held at sadar Upazila complex, Rangamati along with 40 farmers of four villages (Katachari, Ragapani,Noadam and Guichari). At Rangamati farmers grow mostly the “Honey queen” variety of pineapple. During the normal cropping period the farmers do not get proper price of their product. The extension work about the technology was very much limited in this area. Such type of work was not being carried out before there.

a) Bench mark survey was completed b) Land selection were completed both at Madhupur, Tangail and Rangamati Sadar Upazila. c) Farmers were detected doe demonstration of Year round pineapple production technology. d) Training of two hundred farmers, one hundred from each of the site of Madhupur and Rangamati were conducted. e) Collection of planting materials (Suckers) were made where the Giant kew variety was collected for Madhupur and Honey Queen for Rangamati. f) Land preparation was completed for four demonstrations at each of the site at Madhupur and Rangamati. g) Special training were conducted for elite farmers for eight demonstration. h) Preparation prior to hormone application was taken and necessary notes were taken about the plant growth condition. Hormone application time schedule was revised due to not reaching optimal growth condition of the crop as prevailing prolong drought in the country. i) The commercial brand of ethrel as trade name with “Ripen-15” was chosen for its availability in the market by discussing with the personnel from National Agricare Import and Export Ltd. being the distributors of the brand. j) Hormonal dosage were revised for application in case of Giant kew variety for proper effectiveness for flower induction. Horticulturist from HRC, BARI visited the farmers field to see the situation of partial and fully non effectiveness of used hormone. k) Hormone application for four different time was accomplished and available results were collected as mentioned in the report. l) Field day or farmers gathering was arranged at farmers field of Mr. A. Rahim Talukder at Haludia site of Madhupur to show the gathering sequential off seasonal fruit production. m) Market price was also verified which seems to be at least Tk. 50/fruit right at the field.
