Establish a Standard for Jute Carpet for Achievement of Its Market Potentiality Against Its Competitions

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This year a comparative was made on Tossa Natural Carpet white Natural carpet manufactured under identical construction parameters are 9 dent, 15 reeds, pile height 135 tufts per square inch. Pile yarn used is of white natural jute fiber with 2 piles each of coul= 7.5 lbs/spy. It is observed that resiliency parameters are higher for Tossa Natural Carpet than white natural carpet. Abrasion resistance and Tuft withdraw force are higher in case of tossa jute carpet than the white jute carpet.

Objectives:

To establish a standard for jute carpet to enhance its market potentiality.

Methodology:

A comparative study regarding performance of Tossa Natural Carpet white Natural carpet was made this year. The performance factors such as resilience, abrasion, tuft withdrawal force, durability etc. along with some of the constructional parameters were studied. The carpet of both varieties are prepared from constructional parameters are 9 dent, 15 reeds, pile height 135 tufts per square inch. Pile yarn used is of white natural jute fiber with 2 piles each of coul= 7.5 lbs/spy. Except carpet of white natural jute fiber pile yarn, other varieties of carpet are studied. Experiment was done following the B.S. standard British method BS 4098:1967.

Achievement/Findings:

A comparative study regarding performance of Tossa Natural Carpet white Natural carpet was made on their following parameters - resilience, abrasion, tuft withdrawal force, durability etc. It was observed that percentage thickness recovery; percentage compression etc. of Tossa Natural Fibre Carpet is higher values than that of white natural fiber carpet. However, it is observed from the data that similar to Tossa Natural Carpet white Natural carpet too follows the truth (fact) that higher is the pile height of the carpet, lower is the resiliency it imparts. The abrasion resistance value of Tossa is considered to be stiffer than the white jute fiber. But practically it is found that white jute fiber carpet has higher resistance value. From the statistical analysis of the data it is found that CV% lies from 3% to 13% which bears the testimony to the authenticity of the experiment done.
