Determine the Variation of Moisture Regain of Jute Fibre

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

For this study, six grades of jute namely BWB, BWC, BWD, BTB, BTC and BTD were collected from pucca bales. The moisture regain of the grades of jute viz. BWB, BWC, BWD, BTB, and BTD were studied throughout the year and quarterly basis. The moisture regain of jute was a found to vary appreciably with the change of the season.

Objectives:

To determine the standard moisture regain of jute of different grades in different months in Bangladesh.

Methodology:

For this study, six grades of jute namely BWB, BWC, BWD, BTB, BTC and BTD were collected from pucca bales. The samples were exposed in the open air for 48 hours. Then the moisture regain of the exposed jute were determined by moisture testing oven, as per standard test methods.

Achievement/Findings:

From the data it was observed that in case of white jute the higher the grades the higher percentage of moisture regain i.e. the moisture regain of BWB is higher than that of BWD. It was also found that the moisture regain of BWC is higher than that of BWD. It was observed that in case of Tossa jute the moisture regain is lower grade of jute is higher than that of the higher the grades. So, it can be concluded that the moisture regain of white jute increased directly with the higher grades and the moisture regain of Tossa jute fiber is increased directly with the lower grades. But more trials with the higher grades of fibers viz. A & B need to be carried out for conclusion.
