Studies on the Physic-mechanical Properties of Dhabdhabey Pat and Allied Fibres

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The characteristic properties and spinnability of Dhabdhabey Pat were studied. In the study, fiber samples of white jute fiber called Dhabdhabey pat grown and harvested along with a control variety CVL-1. Test results reveal that the physical and mechanical properties of Dhadhabey pat were comparatively good than the control variety of white jute CVL-1 in respect of certain physical properties and mechanical properties.

Objectives:

To determine the characteristic properties and spinnability of Dhabdhabey Pat.

Methodology:

In the study, fiber samples of white jute fiber called Dhabdhabey pat and control variety CVL-1, produced under the same agronomic conditions were tested in the standard atmosphere of temp.20ÌŠC +Ì 2ÌŠ C and RH 65%+Ì 2%. Various properties of these fibers such as fineness, bundle strength, tex and quality ratio etc., were determined through standard test methods and regression analysis. The sample was then spun into 6 lbs/spy 8 lbs/spy and 10 lbs/spy counts of yarns at the Experimental spinning of this Institute.

Achievement/Findings:

From the data it was observed that Dhabdhabey pat has got the lower tex value and the lower diameter compared to CVL-1, which were favorable for good spinning. From the results of the bundle strength it can be said that the bundle strength of Dhabdhabey Pat was higher than that of the control variety CVL-1. The breaking load and the quality ratio of Dhabdhab a bit lower than the control variety CVL-1. It is also observed that in case of finer count (6 lbs/spy) the breaking load and the quality ratio Dhabdhabey Pat wre more acceptable to CVL-1. Thus it was concluded that Dhabdhabey Pat were also good compared to other varieties of white jute in respect of physical and mechanical properties.
