Identification of Diseases of Minor Fruits in Chittagong Region

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at RARS, Chittagong and laboratory of Plant Pathology Division, BARI, Gazipur during the period of 2011 to 2012 to identify the diseases of minor fruits grown in Chittagong region. Only one pathogen named Pestalotia sp. was isolated from infected leaves of Deowa and Phoma sp. from Taikor. On the other hand, Colletotrichum sp.and Phomopsis sp were identified from infected Chalta leaves.

Objectives:

To identify different diseases with causal organism of minor fruits grown in Chittagong region.

Methodology:

Different disease parts of leaves were collected from Deowa, Taikor and Chalta plants presented at RARS, Hathazari, garden. The experimental work was done in the laboratory of Plant Pathology Division, BARI, Gazipur and RARS, Hathazari, Chittagong. First the infected leaves were cut into small pieces and put into Chlorax within 2-3 min. After that small pieces of infected leaves washed by distilled water about 2 times. Then it was placed into blotter and PDA (Potato dextrose agar) plate and incubated at 25+2o c in an incubator for 5-12 days. Pathogen were identified under sterio and compound microscope.

Achievement/Findings:

Data showed that only one pathogen named Pestalotia sp.was isolated from infected leaves of Deowa and Phoma sp. from Taikor. On the other hand, Colletotrichum sp.and Phomopsis sp were identified from infected Chalta leaves.
