Utilization of Jute Wastes ( Caddis, Dust ) to Produce Valuable Chemicals by Enzymatic Means.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The fungi S.pulverulantum and P. chrysosporium produced more protein than the other organisms like. S. commune, S. rolfsii and one unknown organism,when grown in the substrate of 50% caddis dust and 50% wheat bran at same condition. The vegetative growth was also poor on that substrate. The protein contents of the substrate fermented by S.pulverulantum and P. chrysosporium were increased from 6% to 12% and 13% respectively. Where as on the other hand the organisns like S. rolfsii, S. commune and unknown organisms increased the protein content from 6% to 10% only. Their mycelial growth were also poor on this substrate.

Objectives:

To produce important value added products using jute wastes as raw materials.

Methodology:

Sporotrichum pulverulantum, Phanerochete chrysosporium , Scherotium rolfsii, Schizophyllum commune, Aspergillus terreus , Trichoderma viridae were also carry out the experiment. All these fungi are known as the active degrades of cellulose , hemicellulose and other polysaccharides. More or less these organisms grow well in potato dextrose medium. Preparation of substrate for culture medium: The following natural media were used for the growth of organisms and the production of fermented jute wastes. a ) 20% wheat bran mixed with 80% caddis dust. b) 50% wheat bran and 50% of caddis dust . c ) 100% caddis dust and 100 % wheat bran. The solid state fermentation were carried out. After six days of fermentation the fermented products were oven dried at 50 degree centigrade . Protein content of the fermented caddis were done by kjeldahl method.

Achievement/Findings:

Five well known fungal strains and one unknown organism were allowed to grow individually on substrate 50% caddis and 50% wheat bran under suitable conditions.It was observed that S.pulverulantum and P. chrysosporium showed maximum growth at 6 days of fermentation. Their fermented substrate also contained higher percentage of protein in comparison to the substrate fermented by other fungi i.e. 12% to 13% only. Five organisms were grown together on the same substrate under suitable conditions. Their mycelial growth was very poor and their fermented substrate after 6 days of fermentation contained low percentage of protein ( i.e. 6% to 10% only ).
