On-farm Trial of Two Promising Mutant Lines of Winter Tomato

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Objective of this study was to develop high yielding winter tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) variety(s) with lower reaction to disease to major diseases and insect-pests. On-farm trial was carried out with two promising mutant lines, TM-110 and TM-130 along with a check variety, BARI tomato-7 at three locations during winter of 2002-03. The mutant TM-130 produced highest fruit yield at all the three locations as well as in average followed by TM-110 and BARI tomato-7. Regarding the plant type and fruit size TM-130 was better than TM-110 and BARI tomato-7.

Methodology:

On-farm trial was carried out with two promising mutant lines, TM-110 and TM-130 along with a check variety, BARI tomato-7 at three locations during winter of 2002-03. Locations were Ishurdi, Rangpur and Comilla. Unit plot size was 10 m x 8 m having spacing of 50 cm between both rows and plants. Recommended cultural practices were followed as and when necessitate. Data on fruit yield of the mutant lines and check were recorded and analyzed.

Achievement/Findings:

In view of improved variety, a task force comprising of scientists of different disciplines has been formed for generation of data. The mutant TM-130 produced highest fruit yield at all the three locations as well as in average followed by TM-110 and BARItomato-7. Regarding the plant type and fruit size TM-130 was better than TM-110 and BARI tomato-7.
