Study the Health Hazard Properties of Jute and Jute Blended Products in Comparison to Cotton, Wool and Synthetic.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was carried out in the laboratory of Jute waste Utilization Department of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in 1996.Dielectric constant, electrical resistance and conductance of untreated and treated jute and 80:20 of untreated and treated jute polyester and jute-rayon were measured. Dielectric constant of untreated jute was found higher than those of treated jute. On the other hand, both 80:20 untreated jute polyester and treated jute polyester showed lower parameters than those of 80:20 untreated jute rayon and treated jute rayon. Blended samples showed higher dielectric parameters than those of only jute samples.

Objectives:

Measurement of dielectric constant, parallel capacitance, electrical resistance and conductance of jute and jute blended materials at different temperature, humidity and a-c frequency.

Methodology:

The measurement of the real part of the dielectric constant, parallel capacitance, electrical resistance and conductance were measured in the following ways: Collection of samples: 80%-20% untreated jute-polyester and jute rayon and 80%-20% treated jute-polyester and jute rayon samples were collected from the wet processing department and the powder was made by grinding machine. The measurement of the real part of the dielectric constant k (w) is generally done by measuring the change in capacitance of a capacitor by the introducing of the dielectric material between its electrodes and then the ratio of this capacitance to the capacity of the empty capacitor gives the specific inductive capacity or the relative permittivity of the material. In any real circuit element containing the sample dielectric, there will be an additional distributed capacitance due to leads etc. This lead capacitance was also considered in the measurement and subtracted from the actual capacitance measured in this experiment.

Achievement/Findings:

Measurement of the dielectric properties of jute and jute blended materials is an important factor in the assessment of its health hazard characteristics. The dielectric constant k (w) parallel capacitance Cp, electric resistance and conductance were measured by using Schering Bridge. The measurement showed that the dielectric constant and the parallel resistance increased with the increase in temperature and decreased with the increase in a-c frequencies. On the other hand, all the parameters of both 80%:20% jute-polyester and jute rayon blended sample showed higher values than those of jute samples. But the dielectric constant of 80:20 jute-polyester showed a lower value than those of 80:20 jute -rayon.
