Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Objective of this study was to increase productivity of existing system through introduction of BRRI developed high yielding varieties throughout the country. Multilocation trial of BRRI dhan46 -BRRI dhan29 -Fallow cropping pattern in medium highland phase II was undertaken at four Upazilas of Tangail, Mymensingh, Gaibandha and Kurigram districts. Block demonstration was done at five bigha land of five farmers at each Upazila. In multilocation testing of BRRI dhan46-BRRI dhan29-Fallow cropping pattern for medium high land phase II, the recommended patterns gave 4 - 23% higher grain yield and gross margin over existing farmers patterns.

Multilocation trial of BRRI dhan46 -BRRI dhan29 -Fallow cropping pattern in medium highland phase II was undertaken at four Upazilas of Tangail, Mymensingh, Gaibandha and Kurigram districts. Block demonstration was done at five bigha land of five farmers at each Upazila. The recommended management practices adopted in T. Aman and Boro seasons. Yield and gross margins of the recommended and farmers patterns are calculated.

Achievement/Findings:

The recommended patterns gave 4-23% higher grain yield and gross margin over existing farmers' patterns. The highest yield of 11.14 t/ha and gross margin of Tk. 1,67,100/ha from recommended cropping pattern was obtained in Mymensingh followed by Tangail where the pattern yield and gross margin were 10.48 t/ha and Tk. 1,57,200/ha, respectively. Though the highest yield and gross margin was obtained in Mymensingh but the highest yield advantage of 23% was obtained in Tangail. It was because of higher yield gap between recommended and farmers' pattern in both T. Aman and Boro season in Tangail. But in Mymensingh, the highest yield advantage of 1.61 t/ha was obtained in T. Aman but the yield advantage in Boro was very low.
