Ten new potato varieties were studied against Diamant in farmer’s field at four districts to know the farmers comments on the varieties. On average of four locations among the ten new varieties farmers preferred Espirit, Laura, Lady Rosetta and Melody.

Selection of suitable varieties in collaboration with farmers and other organizations.

The experiment was conducted in the farmer’s field at four districts Joydebpur, Munshigonj, Comilla and Rangpur. In each district the trial was replicated four locations. Ten new varieties along with Diamant as check were included in the study. The unit plot size for each variety was 6m x 3m. Whole tubers were planted with a spacing of 60 cm x 25 cm. Seeds were sown from Nov. 20 to Dec. 6, 2006. Fertilizer and other management practices were followed as per TCRC recommendation.
